Noble and Greenough School is seeking a skilled painter and carpenter to join our maintenance team in the Buildings and Grounds department. The ideal candidate will have experience in both painting and carpentry, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality artisanship. This position requires versatility and proficiency in various tasks related to both disciplines. This is a full-time position, Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the flexibility to work Monday–Friday during the summer and school breaks. (Saturday hours during the school year can be earlier if desired).

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning and repairing as needed

Apply paint, varnish, stain, and other finishes to various surfaces such as walls, ceilings, doors, cabinets, and furniture

Select appropriate tools and materials for each job

Perform carpentry tasks, including framing, installation of doors and windows, building and repairing furniture, and other woodworking projects

Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, plywood, and other materials

Ensure all work meets organization and industry standards for quality and safety

Maintain tools and equipment in good condition

Collaborate with other team members and contractors as needed

Help the grounds crew during spring cleanup and mulching and fall cleanup with leaves

Shovel snow during and after storms

All other duties as assigned by the director and assistant director of Buildings and Grounds

Requirements:

Proven experience as a painter and carpenter and general maintenance

Proficiency in painting techniques (e.g., brush, roller, spray) and carpentry skills (measuring, cutting, framing, finishing)

Knowledge of various painting materials

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and work at heights

Proficiency in carpentry needs for repairs and minor construction, including window and door installation, fine carpentry, roofing, and siding

Confidence in using all types of power tools safely

Experience in repairing commercial doors and all the hardware that goes with the doors

Have some knowledge of plumbing and electrical

Be able to climb ladders carrying 20 lbs. and work off of a ladder or lift

Be able to lift and move 50 lbs

A proactive team player who is willing to support the department in any capacity that is needed

Potential to learn and operate the ice resurfacing machine (Zamboni)

Possess effective communication skills

High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or apprenticeship is a plus
