Prepare medications

Read prescriptions from physicians, interpret orders, and prepare medications according to the doctor's instructions. This may include compounding and packaging sterile products.

Fill prescriptions

Locate, dispense, and pack medications, and label them with dosage instructions.

Check inventory

Organize inventory, check for shortages, and ensure medications are within their expiration dates.

Provide customer service

Help customers pick up prescriptions, answer questions, and direct them to pharmacists if needed.

Administrative tasks

Process insurance claims, enter patient information into computer systems, and maintain pharmacy records.

Pharmacy technicians should have strong organizational and communication skills, as well as proficiency with computers and data entry. They may also need to be able to stoop, bend, and lift items up to 30 pounds.
