We’re looking for a Lead Carpenter to join our growing team in Portland, Oregon. We are headquartered in NW Portland but this job serves residential homes throughout Portland and its suburbs. This position is full-time.

Job Description:

Lovett’s Lead Carpenter constructs building structures according to construction plans. They possess high-level framing skills in addition to a deep knowledge of all manner of finish carpentry skills. Their responsibilities include ensuring that all structures are plumb and level, constructing rough openings as well as staircases, flooring, and installing temporary supports for structures as required.

A successful Lovett Lead Carpenter is able to interpret blueprints and have sound knowledge of building codes and safety regulations. They demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently with an eye for quality. Our Lead Carpenter oversees carpenter apprentices and must be able to perform all duties while teaching and supporting team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Frame and Trim carpentry: accurately measuring, cutting, and shaping common building materials.

Erect temporary structures such as scaffolds and hoists.

Perform repairs on existing structures that are damaged or structurally unsound.

Take off dimensions from building plans with an eye to identifying potential layout and structural issues

Exam building materials to identify any defects.

Make material lists from plans and source materials and supplies for delivery and/or pick-up.

Perform job site preparation with consideration for top notch work zone dust protection, safety standards and end of job

cleanliness

Clear away all carpentry debris and waste.

Set up and strip concrete forms, tying and bending rebar according to engineering specifications, and coordinating

concrete delivery and emplacement

Arrive at job site on time, prepared for work with personal tools and PPE

Display willingness to encourage safety culture with team members and report accidents and injuries

Oversee 1-2 Carpenters / Apprentices, teaching and supporting their growth at Lovett and in the profession.

Participate actively in team-oriented culture including job site safety meetings, daily stretches, sharing company/crew

feedback, observations and ideas

Act professionally at all times with a friendly, knowledgeable and even-keeled manner including presentable attire,

active listening and eye contact

Follow Lovett’s standard operating procedures

Respond to texts from the office in a prompt and timely manner, as well as completing timely submission of company

related paperwork

Display respect and care for tools and equipment belonging to both company and other crew members

Provide daily updates on Slack

Skills, Competencies & Qualifications:

Minimum 10 years of carpentry and framing experience, with 3 years in Lead Carpentry position

Minimum 5 years in residential construction, preferably in remodeling, additions, or home repair

Provide own tools for all standard framing and carpentry tasks

Experience working in outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions, strongly

Experience serving the public in a customer service capacity or related field

Mechanically inclined with experience using power tools

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong organizational skills

Effective communication skills

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

Physical Demands:

Carpenters must be capable of carrying out all of the above requirements without accommodation or reasonable

Management.

Sitting, standing, walking, talking, seeing and hearing is required. Reasonable accommodation can be provided to

Comfortable with heights and spatially aware

Ability to lift 50lbs, repeatedly over the course of a day; handling power tools and hand tools; prying, pulling and

twisting

Capable of working in sustained hot or cold temperatures at physically demanding tasks such as hauling and handling

debris in dusty conditions

Comfortable wearing a respirator and working according to safety standards with hazardous or potentially hazardous

material

Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment

Capable of communication via text message, group text message and email

Ability to work in an environment with moderate to high noise levels with the ability to use proper ear protection as

needed or when instructed

Highly responsive to communication and feedback and offers feedback constructively and respectfully

Travel for short periods of time periodically

With almost 20 years in the business, Lovett Deconstruction is Portland’s premier deconstruction company with more experience than any other company in the industry. A recent addition to our business, the Carpentry team works on some of our projects after our Deconstruction team has completed their scope of work. Whether it's framing, siding install or finish carpentry, our carpenters are available to assist General Contractors with the carpentry scope. Department: Deconstruction

Reports to: Lead Project Manager

Hours: This is a full-time, 40-hours per week position. Monday - Friday, 8 hour shift usually 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Compensation: Hourly full-time. We evaluate our compensation offerings according to market medians and internal pay equity. Starting Salary Range: $27-$35/hour, DOE
