Part Time Church Job - Community Coordinator

Augustana Lutheran Church is a spiritual community that celebrates the gifts of God that

To support and advance this vision, the Community Coordinator monitors, coordinates, and

communicates the weekly operations of the church. The Community Coordinator relates and

communicates well with diverse types of people, uses technology to facilitate communication,

coordinates projects and people, collaborates with others to accomplish goals and solve

problems, and adapts to changing needs and processes. The Community Coordinator is not a

member of Augustana’s congregation but will be acquainted with and enjoy serving in a church

environment.

Role in the Organization

Reports directly to the Pastor.

Collaborates with church staff members, council members, committee chairs, office volunteers.

Interacts with Augustana’s diverse congregation, newcomers, and visitors.

Responsibilities

Duties separate into the areas of Congregational Life and Communication, and Administrative

Affairs.

Congregational Life and Communications

· Serve as on-site coordinator for Sunday activities, setting up spaces as directed,

ensuring supplies are available, supporting volunteers and members, and welcoming

visitors.

· Produce the printed and online materials necessary to support a schedule of weekly,

seasonal, and special occasion worship services. This includes the weekly worship bulletin,

as well as special service bulletins as needed.

· Serve as a welcoming point of contact, with guidance of the pastors and congregational

leadership, for receiving, responding to, and initiating communication to and from Augustana

via the church's email account and website.

· Produce the Annual Congregational meeting packet and materials for the Council

organizational meeting, which includes an updated list of that year’s Church Council officers, committee chairs, and other ministry leaders.

· Produce direct mailings, special event announcements, new member packets, and other

church communications, including publicity and promotions as directed.

· Distribute church communications via internet and in print as directed.

· Support parish program scheduling and communicate meeting and activity schedules.

· Help ministry leaders schedule and coordinate volunteers for worship related activities.

· Invite, encourage, and manage office volunteers from the parish.

· Work with pastors, staff and eNews editor to develop and maintain a regular email

newsletter.

Administrative Affairs

· Receive physical and digital mail for the congregation and distribute appropriately to

volunteers, staff, and pastors. This includes sending invoices to the Bookkeeper and

Treasurer on a timely basis.

· Maintain and update the Augustana parish email list-serves, Breeze member database,

E-letter mailing list, in collaboration with pastors, staff and volunteers.

· Update and maintain Augustana program calendar on the web site.

· Serve as primary contact for groups and persons using space at Augustana.

· Schedule the use of the facilities by parishioners and outside individuals or groups, in

consultation with all parties affected by such space use.

· Maintain and advance functional capacity of the office by purchasing and maintaining

supplies and working to assure a clean, organized, and inviting work space for all persons

using the office.

· Maintain and update official parish records, register, and files.

· Assist with preparing parish reports to the Metro DC Synod, ELCA, and governmental

agencies as directed.

Support for Pastors

· Provide administrative and clerical support to the pastors as requested. Periodically

perform tasks and special projects as assigned.

· Meet regularly with Staff for planning and follow-up (staff meetings).

Job type: Part Time, 15 hours/week

Reports to: Pastor

Hours: This is a hybrid position that can largely be accomplished remotely with flexible hours.

Required on-site hours include:

Tuesdays from 9am-12pm

Sundays from 8am-2pm

Additional on site hours may be needed, and will be negotiated between the Pastor and

Community Coordinator
