Job Description
STAFF ASSOCIATE I, FACULTY ENGAGEMENT, TUTORING AND ADVISING, Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC) (https://advising.mit.edu/about/) -Academic Enrichment and Advising Support (AEAS), to collaborate closely with the assistant dean for AEAS on streamlining academic support, providing faculty advising support, and serving as an advisor to students. The role encompasses advising responsibilities, programmatic implementation support, enhancing program communications, and collaboration with campus stakeholders to improve academic support for students and faculty advisor training. Responsibilities include serving as the academic advisor to a cohort of first-year students and as a secondary advisor to upper-level students; advising students on course selection, resource navigation, degree planning, career paths, graduate school opportunities, etc.; providing individualized academic and personal advising to students; maintaining records; supporting efforts to streamline tutoring and academic support; collaborating on developing/maintaining faculty advisor training materials/sessions; partnering on developing branding, marketing strategies, and communication materials; and other duties as assigned. Full description available here (https://advising.mit.edu/about/open-positions/) .Job RequirementsREQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least one year of relevant experience in advising, counseling, or academic administration; demonstrated proficiency using technology platforms and digital tools and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies; experience collaborating and working with diverse campus stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff; support for MIT’s commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within an academic community; initiative; proven organizational, communication, program development, and problem-solving skills; ability to convey complex information effectively to diverse audiences, including developing and facilitating workshops; and adaptability and flexibility working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment and the ability to embrace and manage changes as they arise. PREFERRED: master’s degree or experience working as a graduate assistant while earning a master’s, experience tutoring or in academic support program management, and experience with tutoring management software. Job #24366-6 Starting salary range: $56,600 - 65,000 This is a full-time, hybrid position that requires working three days per week on-campus during the academic year with the understanding that more of an in-person presence may be required during peak periods, such as orientation, registration, and other critical times throughout the year. This may include working occasional evenings and weekends. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.
