The German Language School Seattle is looking for a German Language Teacher for the new school year.

The school’s mission is to provide excellent German language instruction to diverse learners, to celebrate the culture of German-speaking countries, and to cultivate a vibrant German-speaking community in the Seattle area. The school year includes 32 classes on Saturday mornings from 9:30am to 12:00pm from mid-September through mid-May at the Villa Academy (5001 NE 50th St. Seattle, WA 98105). Guided by the curriculum Deutsch als Fremdsprache für das Auslandsschulwesen, classes focus on building the skills to communicate in authentic situations in German-speaking countries. Advanced students participate in the National German Exam (NGE), the Internationale Vergleichsarbeit (IVA) 1 & 2, the Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) I & II, as well as the German AP and STAMP tests.

The German Language Teacher will be responsible for preparing and implementing a full teaching plan according to the school’s requirements. It will be fundamental to provide instruction in German language and culture to students while also helping them develop their personalities and skills. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the job with an ability to reach out to students and create a relationship of mutual trust. They will know how to organize a class and make learning a meaningful process. The goal will be to help cultivate the students’ interest in German language and culture and to be their dedicated ally in the learning process.

Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instructional activities in German.

Create a positive educational environment for students.

Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

Appropriately challenge student’s individual German language ability.

Observe and evaluate student's performance.

Manage student behavior in the classroom.

Effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, the principal, and board members.

Implement the curriculum of the school and contribute to its ongoing improvement and development.

Participate in celebrations, field trips, and other special events arranged by the school on Saturdays.

Attend monthly teacher meetings on Saturdays after school.

Send weekly class emails/updates.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is preferred, other qualifications will be considered.

Fluency (native, near-native) in German.

Eligibility to work in the US.

Teaching experience is preferred.

Familiarity with classroom technology.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently with moderate amount of supervision.

Creativity, open-mindedness, team player attitude.

Reliability and punctuality.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Working hours per week

5-6 hours per week for lesson planning, classroom instruction, and monthly teacher meetings.

Availability to work on Saturdays mornings from mid-September through mid-May.
