Position Summary
There are multiple departments within Aerotech that have Mechanical Engineering Internship opportunities, including in Mechanical R&D , Mechatronics, Sustaining, and Manufacturing Engineering . By applying for this position, you will be considered for all Mechanical Engineering Internships or Co-ops.
Potential Essential Functions
In this Internship or Co-op position, you will assist in many aspects of the design, assembly, testing, and analysis of precision positioning systems under the guidance of an upper-level engineer and with the support of a peer group. Depending on your individual objectives, duties may include:
Performing detailed mechanical design, drawing, and documentation of parts and assemblies to support the production of our precision motion systems
Characterizing error motions in positioning systems by learning to use laser interferometers, capacitance probes, autocollimators, indicators, digital levels, accelerometers, and other metrology equipment
Using frequency response methods and vibration test equipment to characterize dynamic performance and stability margins of closed loop servomechanisms
Working closely with the engineering and production teams to identify problematic steps in the manufacturing process, and fixing them
Collecting, analyzing, and presenting data using a variety of software tools for both formal presentations and informal group meetings
Practicing project management techniques to clearly identify a problem statement, track progress towards the objectives, and report on the closing results
Minimum Qualifications
Eligible applicants are students currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Currently accepting applications for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors that plan to attend graduate school, and current Graduate students.
Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or above.
Experience with at least one 3D solid modeling package is preferred.
Experience with at least one technical programming language (MATLAB, Python, etc) is preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. Aerotech does not provide US work authorization sponsorship for this position. OPT and CPT visa holders are not eligible for employment if they will need work authorization sponsorship at any time in the future.
Note: This is a paid internship, but Aerotech does not provide additional relocation or housing assistance for this position.
