Production & Assembly Technician
About Us:
We’re Superior Gaskets, a small but growing business in Portland, OR, specializing in custom gaskets and commercial kitchen maintenance. For the past 7 years, we've built a solid reputation with a busy schedule and a loyal customer base. We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented person to join our team in a production role. If you enjoy working independently, have an eye for precision, and appreciate the flexibility of a small team environment, this could be the job for you.
What You’ll Do:
- Measure & Cut: You’ll be working with various gasket profiles, measuring lengths of material with precision, and cutting them to size. Accuracy is key in this role.
- Magnetize & Fuse: After cutting, you’ll magnetize the gasket lengths and then fuse the four pieces together to create a complete gasket. This step requires careful attention to detail and some practice to master.
- Trim & Finish: Once the gaskets are fused, you'll trim any excess material to ensure a clean, finished product. This task is precise and requires a steady hand but becomes quicker with experience.
- Work Independently: You'll be working in a small, custom-built production area located in our basement, designed to help you work efficiently. While you’ll be part of a small team, much of the work is independent once you’re trained.
- Flexible Schedule: The job offers flexible hours, and you'll have the freedom to listen to music, podcasts, or even watch movies while you work, as long as the tasks get done.
Experience & Skills:
- Attention to Detail: Precision is critical in this role. You should be comfortable measuring and cutting materials accurately.
- Hands-On Experience: Experience in a hands-on, technical field like carpentry, manufacturing, or general maintenance is a plus but not required. We’ll provide all necessary training.
- Self-Motivation: You’ll be working independently, so a self-starter attitude is important.
Location & Work Environment:
- Portland, OR: The role is based in our small, custom-built production area in Portland. It’s a quiet, well-ventilated space with all the tools and equipment you’ll need.
- Physical Requirements: The job involves some lifting (up to 40 lbs) and working near a heated device used for fusing gasket materials.
Why Work With Us:
- Flexible Hours: We understand the importance of work-life balance and offer a flexible schedule to accommodate your life.
- Competitive Pay: We offer a piece rate of $5 per gasket, with the potential to earn $25-50 per hour based on efficiency. To give you a sense of what’s possible, after my first week, I was able to produce about 5-6 gaskets per hour, from measuring raw materials to a trimmed final product ready to install. With practice, a highly skilled technician can produce up to 10 gaskets per hour.
How to Apply:
If this sounds like the job for you, send us your resume and a quick note about why you’d be a good fit. We’re excited to find our next team member!
