Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.Shift / Hours: 11pm - 8pm / 100% onsiteIdeal Candidate: will have Master's Degree with some imaging and animal experience.SUMMARYTo provide high quality technical skills necessary for supporting various imaging related research projects within the department. Performs technical duties in accordance with specific protocols for imaging related research projects.The position will be third shift to accommodate equipment availability, but the schedule may necessitate occasional modifications for tasks such as training, team meetings, or equipment repairs.JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESExperiments and DataProvide clear, consistent, and organized recording of data and information to include faculty, staff and trainees.Proficient in manipulating and archiving data and information using a variety of commonly used word processing, data processing, graphic communication, and web-based computer programs.Maintain appropriate level of effort and communication with SAIF and lab personnel.Manage and coordinate activities to preserve experiment design and ensure that images, data, and quality of service are not compromised.Maintenance, QC and Inventory

Responsible for the proper operation of a variety of imaging equipment including radiographic, magnetic resonance, computed tomographic, gamma camera, positron emission tomographic, ultrasound, and optical imaging equipment.

Maintain instrument used for quality control and report any equipment issues to senior lab members and SAIF personnel promptly.

Work with lab personnel and SAIF to coordinate equipment service events with service contractors, and MDACC engineering team if necessary. Ensure/verify safety and proper imaging performance by perform equipment quality assurance tests.

Learn and operationally launch new imaging technologies adopted by the facility and provide training to junior staff on usage and safety of new and existing equipment.

Assist in the planning and coordination of experiments between multiple locations: Main Campus, SRB, and 3SCRB.

Ensure proper inventory of supplies and assets needed for all planned experiments.

Maintain and uphold the policies and procedures in accordance to safety guidelines for the operations of the facility. This includes managing radiation safety documentation such as isotope tracking, daily lab surveys, and monthly wipe tests to ensure lab safety when requested to do so.

Animal Handling

Provide veterinary surgical support procedures, aseptic techniques, animal and instrument preparation, anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery procedures, and post-operative monitoring and care of animals, monitor vital signs and assess conditions of a variety of research animals using standard veterinary monitoring procedures.

Provide veterinary technical assistance to include clinical, surgical, and imaging procedures to research animals, administer drugs via oral and parenteral (SQ, IM, IV) routes, placement of IV and catheters, positioning of animals for diagnostic and imaging procedures and obtaining biological data and samples (body temperature, pulse, rate, respiratory rate, samples of blood, urine, feces, etc.)

Conduct or assist in the humane euthanasia of research animals, perform necropsy examinations and tissue harvests, cleans, sanitizes, and package instruments and equipment following each procedure.

Proper respect for and humane care and handling of research animals in accordance with institutional, USDA, AALAC, and NIH accreditation standard operating procedures.

Observe a variety of research animals and accurately report findings in a clear, concise understandable manner to lab staff, supervisor, or DVMS veterinarian

Any employee hired or rehired after September 1, 2012 must possess required certification.Preferred Certification: AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologists Certification, Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) within 180 days of eligibility. Any employee hired or rehired after September 1, 2012 must possess required certificationExperience: Five years of animal research experience to include two years working with imaging equipment. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
