Educational Consultant
The Tuscarora Intermediate Unit invites applicants for an anticipated Educational Consultant position, beginning in January 2025.This is a 200 day/year position with a starting salary of $65,000-$74,559.The Educational Consultant shall be directly responsible to the Director for Special Education for supervision and evaluation.Fundamental Duties/Essential Functions
1. Collect and disseminate information on best practices in special education that supports education of children with disabilities.
2. Ability to develop, prepare for, and provide training on a specific topic for a district/agency.
3. Ability to generate evaluation reports and effective IEP's that may include progress monitoring and positive behavior supports.
4. Knowledge of differentiating instruction and aligning assessments and instructional strategies with the general education curriculum.
5. Provide on-site technical assistance and training, and guided practice to school districts, families and local agencies to facilitate best practices in special education and the education of students with disabilities.
6. Assist school districts in the formation and implementation of curriculum designed to match the needs of students with disabilities but aligned with the districts' regular curriculum and the Pennsylvania Academic Standards.
7. Provide and facilitate workshops and consultations to develop and expand instructional techniques designed to facilitate students with disabilities succeeding on state and local assessments.
8. Provide awareness sessions for special educators and administrators in the requirements of the Pennsylvania State System of Assessment (PSSA) and Pennsylvania Alternative System of Assessment (PASA).
9. Assist local school districts and agencies with various special education requests by providing both on- site support and large group training.
10. Identify, develop, coordinate and deliver staff development and technical support through a variety of technological approaches: Internet, video conferencing, and distance learning.
11. Assist school districts in the development of technological solutions to meeting state and federal requirements including the maintenance of accurate records for the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
12. Participate in appropriate PDE/PaTTAN sponsored training sessions.
13. Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity while working with districts, students, and agencies.
14. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director for Special Education.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Special Education Regulations and Standards.
2. Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1997 (IDEA).
3. Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Academic Standards
4. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force, occasionally, to lift, carry, push, or otherwise move equipment/supplies including students.
5. Ability to provide personal, reliable vehicle for own travel requirements.
6. Ability to travel, attend state-wide trainings, and is flexible in work hours.
7. Ability to orally communicate effectively in English with others in all levels or groups and individual contacts.
8. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language.
9. Strong time management skills.
10. Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal skills so as to effectively function as a team member and collaborate with school administrators, staff, parents and agency personnel.Qualification Standards
1. Education: Possess a Pennsylvania PDE Instru tional or Specialist Certificate and a Master's Degree or Masters Equivalency in Education, Psychology, Speech, or Counseling.
2. Experience: Experience in providing technical assistance in an educational setting is preferred.
