Controls EngineerJob DescriptionResponsible for all phases of medium-scale assigned process or manufacturing improvement projects. This position requires technical proficiency in various industrial control platforms, as well as the ability to interact directly with customers in design reviews, project updates, runoffs, and installations.Major Responsibility Areas and Duties:
Electrical design of complete automation systems using AutoCAD Electrical software
Designs include power distribution, I/O controls, communications, and panel layout drawings as well as PLC and robot programming.
Calculating panel SCCR, power rating, and FLA for panel rating.
Direct electrical assembly during equipment build.
Configure, debug, and test equipment on shop floor.
Direct electrical assembly during installation of equipment.
Lead start-up projects from start-up to completion while working with both internal and external stakeholders.
Manage time and costs to be within budget and on schedule.
Implement and maintain the effectiveness of the plant.
Respond to all unplanned downtime or breakdowns on machines.
Plan and execute maintenance activities for non-routine problems or issues.
Troubleshoot equipment and system problems for manufacturing and facility equipment both routine and complex using a method of troubleshooting to get to a root cause.
Design, fabricate, and install mechanical and electronic equipment and perform program changes.
Lead and assist in the planning, coordination, and performance of shutdown and major maintenance activities.
Complete all training as required and perform OJT to other employees as required.
Wire and repair electric motors, repair basic wiring according to NEC.
Maintain and troubleshoot problems with AC drive systems and PLCs. Should be able to access and interpret PLC logic via a laptop computer or other using the appropriate communication language.
Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on plant equipment, to include lubrication, repairs, adjustments, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
Advise operators and others of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
Install, start up and shut down equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
Perform lockouts or tag out as required.
Hard Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or 10+ years experience in lieu of degree)
3-5+ years of experience in installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automation projects and systems
Electrical Troubleshooting on Equipment and Automated Systems
Troubleshooting and Programming PLCs
Setting up new HMIs
Experience with Automated Systems (Rotating Machinery, Conveyors, Lifts, Robots, Vision Systems Barcode Scanners, Barcode Print & Apply, etc.)
PLC programming, Installation, Commissioning and Hardware/Software troubleshooting
Experience in both legacy & current Rockwell Automation and Siemens’ PLC / HMI platforms
Experience with ACV/ASRS
Experience with industrial communication protocols
Familiarity with CAD Programs (EPLAN, AutoCAD)
Experience with OSHA safety requirements
Experience with electrical troubleshooting
Work EnvironmentMust be willing to work any shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays. Stand for long periods of time. Ability to work at heights on occasion.
