and future vacancies for a period of up to 6 months.DESCRIPTION OF JOB:About the Work UnitThe Traffic Design/Operations Unit for the Colorado Department of
Transportation (CDOT) develops project plans, specifications, and estimates
for construction projects for the Denver Metro area. This unit analyzes and
implements the traffic engineering and traffic operations functions, provides
program support, and designs and manages traffic engineering and safety design
projects.About the PositionCDOT has a vacancy for a licensed Professional Engineer that is responsible
for the engineering details for the supervision of construction to assure
compliance with specifications and designs, and the administration of the
contract documents. This position is also responsible to ensure safe and
efficient development of construction management of the transportation
infrastructure with in Region-1 Traffic. This position will also perform
traffic engineering (including the "stamping" of plans).Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the
following:Responsible for construction work, coordinating with contractors, , the
general public, utilities, and other CDOT personnel to ensure that
construction operations are in compliance with the plans, specifications, and
project goals;
Oversees construction operations to ensure compliance with the plans,
specifications, and purpose of design;
Develops the ability to monitor contractor compliance of equal employment
opportunities laws, Federal wage rates, safety regulations, state, local and
federal ordinances, etc. to ensure conformance safety by monitoring and
requesting modifications on construction sites and traffic control plan to
ensure compliance with appropriate standards;
Checks, compiles and records documentation that report quantities of work
performed, and assured that contractual acceptability of work to prepare
accurate payment of funds to contractor for work completed by making detailed
measurements of quantities from field data.;
Monitors the financial status of all assigned construction projects ensuring
costs are within budgets; representing CDOT in dealings with federal and local
governments, the public, contractors, media, etc.
Identifies design problems caused by actual field conditions encountered,
nitiating, and preparing design changes, negotiation, and authorizing
contract modification orders to remedy the problems;
Ascertains the validity of contractor requests or disputes for additional
compensation not specifically governed by contract;
Analyzes the feasibility of contractor's construction methods and schedules in
conjunction with the project's complexities, anticipated conflicts, and
problems to ensure successful completion of the project, and prevent potential
disputes and lawsuits;
Conducts preconstruction meetings and other necessary project status meetings;
Reviews and approves construction schedules (along with the Resident
Engineer).
Reviews and approves other pre-construction documents.;
Certifies that the contractor's construction methods, procedures, materials
and end products are in compliance with the engineering details and
