Woman Seeking Female Attendants

Vibrant woman with muscular dystrophy seeking female attendant(s) for Friday evening, Saturday/Sunday mornings and back-up. Because I make routine, monthly, out-of-town visits to family, workers would have one weekend off a month, and/or accompany me and receive additional commensurate pay.

I am looking for helpers who are: reliable, conscientious, good-humored, patient, flexible, low-drama, fully vaccinated and boostered, comfortable around body and hygiene care, and willing to learn new and creative ways to accomplish tasks — even if you’re an experienced caregiver. Although I have a lift for transfers, one must be fit enough to be able to lift/adjust 50 lbs. I’m looking for someone who in a pinch could perform a dynamic pivot transfer for my 5’6”, 130 lb. body, which would be a definite plus.

I am organized, focused and efficient, and a “whistle-while-you-work” type person, looking for someone with compatible demeanor. A former athlete and retired social worker, I am also a designer and usually have a project in the works. If you’re inclined and able, we can extend our work to include helping me with creative projects. I’m located in Berkeley, near the UC Campus.

Evening shift takes a minimum of 2 hours, and includes cleaning up dinner dishes, helping with medications, getting into jammies, transferring me into bed, and getting me comfortable. My usual evening shift starts at 8:30 - 9 PM.

Morning shifts take 4 hours, and may require 2 pivot transfers (on and off toilet). Other essential tasks include bathing, dressing, basic home chores, grocery shopping, food prep, and occasional errands. My usual morning shift starts around 8:30 - 9 AM.

Pay starts at $23 hour; bonus pay for major holidays. Must be registered with Alameda County IHSS, or willing to enroll.
