Per-Diem Walking Tour Guide
Hi! I am looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person to assist me with walking tours this October and beyond in the NYC area. I am particularly looking to partner with a teacher (this is a teacher run business), but recent college grads, actors, and those who know history and like to tell stories are encouraged to send me an email.
My business was started about 6 months ago and specializes in sustainable tourism- visiting real neighborhoods, using mass transit options, and no charter buses. Over the past few months, business has been growing and Hudson Valley transit tour offerings have been booking fast for the month of October. In the future, I plan on expanding to other areas of the NYC metro area.
Requirements:
-Knowledgable about the history of the Hudson Valley and the stories surrounding Sleepy Hollow
-Ability to think on your feet
-Excellent customer service
-Public speaking proficiency
-Experience using transit options in NYC and the Hudson Valley
-Personal liability insurance (I will help you get that- options are under $25 a month and you have ability to cancel)
-Weekend availability as well as some weeknights (particularly the week of Halloween)
-Knowledge of another language is a major plus
-NYC tour guide license is another major plus (will allow for you to pick up more tours- I can help you obtain this license if you wish)
Compensation:
I am currently working out the compensation scheme. You will be a 1099 contractor. It will be in the range of $20 to $25 per person on a 2.5-3 hour tour with higher amounts for my longer day trips. Tips tend to average $10 per person. For a 3 hour tour of 10 people (the max I allow for), you may earn above $250 for your time. You will be compensated for any train ticket you will need for the tour.
