Systems Administrator
Description We are offering a contract employment opportunity for a Systems Administrator in the Oil and Gas industry, located in Houston, Texas. This role involves troubleshooting various systems, provisioning accounts, and managing network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and security.
Design, install, and manage on-site and remote software and hardware systems
Troubleshoot technical issues and provide user support for all internal software and hardware systems
Implement and ensure network security measures, including firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems
Organize, manage, and conduct regular system backups to ensure data safety and integrity
Regularly evaluate and optimize system performance
Install, configure, and update software and hardware as necessary
Train and support staff on new technologies and systems
Handle system and user account maintenance, setup, and activation
Monitor IT processes, identify areas for improvement, and make necessary adjustments
Constantly stay updated with the latest technologies and industry trends
Work with IT vendors and service providers to ensure high quality and cost-effective services
Collaborate with IT team to plan and coordinate IT-related projects
Ensure all IT activities comply with federal and state laws, as well as organizational policies.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
Proven work experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar IT role
Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
Knowledge of system security techniques and data backup/recovery
Ability to create and manage user accounts and troubleshoot system errors
Proficient in networking and routing protocols
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work under pressure
Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with team members and explain complex IT concepts to non-IT employees
Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate, or CompTIA Network+ will be preferred
Ability and willingness to stay updated with the latest advancements in technology and industry best practices.
Proficient in database management and software installation.
Strong understanding of firewall administration, antivirus systems, and data encryption.
Working knowledge of virtualization.
Must be available for on-call support when required.
