SUBSTITUTIONS: Graduate training beyond the master's degree in qualifying fields will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience. NOTE: Human services or behavioral sciences degrees acceptable to the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority include addiction studies, behavioral science, public health, public policy/administration, health administration, social work, psychology, counseling, sociology, criminal justice, educational counseling, and rehabilitation counseling. Comparable degrees will be considered qualifying if deemed acceptable by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from the Mental Health Program DirectorB by the presence of responsibility for directing special services program in a large mental health region. Differs from the Mental Health Specialist 1 and 2 by the absence of coordinating and directing special services programs statewide. Examples of WorkEXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED. Coordinates and directs all special services elements, and provides consultation to professional staff within a large region. Provides consultation and technical assistance regarding special services programs, such as community support services, services for special populations (elderly, criminal justice, children, minorities), consultation and education services, and volunteer services. Monitors contract programs and/ or facilities to determine compliance with standards, policies and program requirements, and provides reports related to such review, including recommended plans for correction, to regional administrator. Determines need and types of services for mentally and/or emotionally ill persons; develops plans for providing professional help. Determines organization requirements of personnel, buildings, materials, supplies and equipment necessary to operate special services programs and makes budget recommendations. Interprets agency policy and provides direction to Office of Mental Health staff in carrying out policies, agency goals and objectives and the procedures necessary for their implementation. Resolves complex clinical issues in the operations of special services programs. Evaluates and analyzes programmatic performance of special services programs through site monitoring. Confers and coordinates services with social, health and correctional/criminal justice agencies in the region.
