Clinician- Labor and Delivery

UPMC Hamot is seeking a Clinician to join our dedicated Labor & Delivery team at the Women's Hospital.In this role, you will support the leadership team, facilitate the onboarding and education of newly hired staff, and contribute to unit-wide education initiatives. You will also play an essential role in Service Line initiatives and exemplify professionalism for all team members.Previous experience in Labor & Delivery is required.Shift: Primarily daytime hours, Monday through Friday, with variable hours. On-call hours requiredOverview: The Clinician is a highly skilled nursing professional who serves as a role model in clinical practice, education, and evidence-based practice. This role involves leading complex practice improvements, collaborating with management to promote excellence in nursing care, and contributing to staff evaluations, hiring, and performance management. The Clinician is responsible for the delivery of nursing care, applying advanced clinical knowledge to improve patient outcomes and work environments. They also provide education and clinical support to staff, ensuring care is tailored to the specific needs of patients across the lifespan. Additionally, they are committed to the community and the nursing profession.Title and Salary will be determined based upon qualifications and nursing experience.Responsibilities:

Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by mentoring and modeling positive communication.

Actively participates as a preceptor for student nurses, nurse interns, graduate, and experienced nurses, and assists with the development of new preceptors.

Seeks opportunities to share expertise with the healthcare team within and beyond the clinical unit/department.

Incorporates national professional organization, business unit, and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications.

Applies nursing knowledge and skills within the framework of Relationship-Based Care to meet clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families.

Demonstrates critical thinking in analyzing clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues in patient care.

Practices solid verbal and written communication skills, articulating and translating the patient's condition to other care providers.

Negotiates and recommends changes in patient care and unit practices, ensuring comprehensive patient documentation.

Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying and leading opportunities for patient and staff-focused improvements.

Supports staff psychological and learning needs during change and transition.

Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility, or system level.

Assumes formal leadership responsibilities for quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and new hire onboarding.

Completes and/or assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports.

Minimum 3 years of nursing experience

Master’s degree preferred

BS/BSN required; if BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required

Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse

Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the ages of patients served by the assigned unit

Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span

Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs

Ability to provide care needs as described in the department policy and procedures

Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families

Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment

Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care

Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in the application of the nursing process

Mobility and visual manual dexterity

Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Registered Nurse (RN) Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.

National Certification preferred.
