About the Role: Become a part of Shenandoah National Park’s rich history by helping maintain its wilderness trails! These side trails are an essential part of the park, leading to secluded spots, scenic overlooks, and quiet spaces that showcase the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Many of these trails were established decades ago and have been maintained by volunteers like you, ensuring access to the park's most peaceful and remote areas.

Responsibilities:

Conduct routine maintenance, such as clearing fallen branches, trimming vegetation, and removing debris from the trail

Help maintain structures like stone steps, trail markers, and water drainage features

Monitor trail conditions and report any major issues such as erosion, blocked trails, or damaged infrastructure

Encourage Leave No Trace principles among hikers and educate them on responsible trail use

Participate in special projects, including restoring sections of trail when necessary

Qualifications:

A love for the outdoors and an appreciation for Shenandoah’s wilderness

Willingness to work in remote, rugged conditions and hike on uneven terrain

No prior experience necessary—training and tools will be provided

Physical ability to hike with tools and perform moderate physical labor
