SEEIT District Energy delivers reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy infrastructure to customers across the U.S., providing critical low-carbon heating, cooling, electricity, process water, industrial wastewater, compressed air, and other service solutions to heavy industrial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, research & development, semi-conductor, and commercial customers. RED Rochester, LLC is one of North America’s largest standalone campus-based district & utility systems in North America providing highly reliable and efficient 17 different utility services to 120 industrial manufacturing-based customers on the Park. Utility services include steam, chilled water, electricity, process & high purity water, compressed air, nitrogen, and industrial wastewater. Installed capacities are 117 MW of electric generation, 1.4M pounds per hour of high-pressure steam, 46000 tons of chilled water, 45 MGD water supply, and 45 MGD wastewater treatment. Eastman Business Park has been referenced as a “city within a city”. RED Rochester is the utility and municipality serving that city within the fence line of the Park. Summary: Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the RED Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Operations & Maintenance will be the manager in charge of all aspects of the day-to-day activities of all of RED Rochester, LLC’s production facilities, water filtration plant, distributions systems, industrial wastewater collection systems, and the King’s Landing industrial wastewater facility. The Director will also be responsible for customer service and responding to customer inquiries. Responsible for overseeing operations and maintenance through subordinate managers and supervisors, and formulating and administering policies and programs, managing significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. Influence business decisions made by the senior leadership team. Oversees the accountability and stewardship of RED-Rochester resources and development of systems and procedures to protect organization assets within a large complex organization with multiple functional disciplines and departments. Negotiate and influences others to understand and accept new concepts, practices, and approaches. Supports and leads his team in adopting and living by RED’s mission, vision, and values. Provide a safe working environment for staff. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience, and is expected to bring a creative, collaborative, relational and a proactive leadership approach to RED Rochester. The ideal candidate must have a strong operations and maintenance background in energy & utility generation and wastewater facilities, a willingness to listen and learn, drive to continuously improve, and is team-centric with strong integrity. The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, strong commitment to relationships, is detail oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and emotional intelligence. It is desired that the successful candidate have experience with and be a champion of long-term master energy planning and decarbonization strategies to transition systems such as RED’s to lower the carbon footprint. Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and direct all utility services operations and maintenance park wide. Establishes goals and objectives for departments managed. Establishes internal policies and procedures to guide departmental programs and activities. Through subordinate managers and supervisors, direct the work of staff engaged in operations and maintenance day to day activities and emergency / disaster preparedness and response. Participates as a member of the Senior Leadership team and supports the SEEIT DE Board of Directors goals and initiatives. Areas of oversight will include financial budgeting and budget management, set and achieve goals and priorities to support overall business key performance indicators (KPI’s). Establish and administer policies, programs, and procedures. Develop and implement long and short-term plans and activities designed to enhance programs and services and assure an economic, safe, and efficient work environment. Comply with State and Federal requirements regarding all aspects of reporting and compliance, support by the Environmental, Health, and Safety department at RED. Work with the RED project management, engineering staff, and consultants to develop and implement a long-term energy and decarbonization plan of RED’s systems to lower the carbon footprint in line with the state of New York’s goals and programs and in support of RED’s ownership interests in sustainable energy. Other responsibilities:

Advise the CEO and SEEIT DE Board of unusual trends or problems. Recommend appropriate corrective actions

Attend and conduct a variety of meetings and conferences as assigned

Make presentations to the SLT and Board as necessary regarding plans, projects, and needs of the Operations & Maintenance Department

Plans, directs, and coordinates through subordinate managers & supervisors the Operations & Maintenance department work plans. Meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems. Assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility. Reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures

Recommends, trains, motivates, and evaluates staff. Works with employees to correct deficiencies.

Monitors, tracks, maintains, reports, and is responsible for overall system and equipment performance and efficiency in accordance with the annual budget.

Comprehensive knowledge in planning, scheduling, supervision of a large facilities management organization

Provides continuous reliable and efficient utility services to Eastman Business Park customers

Participates in and provides valuable input into RED’s capital planning process. Develop and implement plans for improvement of production and distribution systems (reliability & efficiency) including modification, addition, replacement of equipment, and changes to operating processes or procedures

Support and work collaboratively with other members of the RED Senior Leadership Team and other RED departments

Implement and maintain training programs for all operations and maintenance staff to ensure RED’s staff is highly qualified to “best in class” standards

Work with the Environmental Health & Safety Department to develop effective regulatory compliance and reporting processes. Implement requirements of the facilities operating permits

Relationships (internal/external)

The Director of Business Development will focus on building strong working relationships with all respective groups within the company and with external stakeholder groups, including but not limited to:

RED’s Senior Leadership team members and SEEIT Board

All levels of government and relevant Agencies, Boards and Commissions that impact the business

Eastman Business Park land & property owners – Kodak & others.

Eastman Business Park Customers and Customer Coordination Committee

Local contractors, equipment suppliers, architects, consultants, and engineering firms.

International District Energy Association (“IDEA”) and other local and national trade organizations.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (mechanical or electrical desired)

MBA is a plus but not required

Energy systems experience – power generation, district energy, utility distribution

Energy master planning and decarbonization project experience preferred

Industrial wastewater experience service individual sites or a campus

Broad business and leadership acumen

Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, maintenance management systems, and plant control applications

GE Frame 6 Gas Turbine/Combined Cycle experience

Core Competencies:

Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present technical and financial information to audiences outside those disciplines.

Ability to engage with a wide range of corporate roles, including operations staff, property management, and C-suite executives.

Ability to analyze energy data and make recommended solutions to solve customer challenges.

Strong decision-making skills, problem solving capabilities, extremely well-organized

Strong multi-tasking abilities.

High level of initiative with an ability to work independently.
