The Press Brake Operator uses a hydraulic powered, digitally controlled press brake to shape and customize materials into a variety of forms dictated by the design criteria. The press brake operator must possess good hand-eye coordination, a steady hand, manual dexterity, and the ability to interpret plans and follow both written and verbal directions. The press brake operator must have good analytical and mathematical skills to interpret drawings, templates, and blueprints that accompany each project. This position requires reading gauges and other measurement tools to determine and apply principals of geometric tolerances. Protective clothing, eyewear and gloves are normally required to work as a press brake operator.
Primary Job Duties:
Inspect the shear and associated equipment for safety and mechanical condition prior to use and initiate the appropriate actions for any identified discrepancies
Evaluate part designs and determine which parts are within the company’s machine and tooling capabilities
Calculate bend allowances and determine blank sizes for formed parts
Identify appropriate tooling for part designs
Setup and program the press brake for jobs
Form parts according to specifications and confirm that formed parts meet all requirements
Ensure quality procedures are used correctly, so that products adhere to requirements
Identify parts that are nonconforming to requirements and follow the appropriate procedures to control nonconforming product
Package completed orders and complete all required documentation
Qualifications:
Prefer 3 years of experience in the metals industry operating a press brake, but willing to train the right candidate
Familiar with the tooling and set up procedures for different thicknesses of metals
Ability to calculate bend allowances for different thicknesses of metals
Ability to decipher blue prints, drawings and sketches
Ability to read a tape measure, calipers, micrometers and angle finders
Forklift and overhead crane experience
Team player who works well with others in a fast paced, customer service oriented, environment
Safety conscious and quality oriented
