Job Description

Facilities Management seeks a vehicle technician to perform repairs and provide maintenance support on all light and medium duty vehicles, grounds equipment and electric vehicles (NEV’s).

Salary Range

$22.00 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona

Essential Duties

In support of multiple ASU campuses, as directed by the Fleet Manager, this position will repair and maintain vehicles and equipment.

Monitor and maintain assigned groups of vehicles up to and including regular vehicle washing schedules.

Order parts from various suppliers, enter and track service records, labor, and material costs.

Perform tune-ups, minor overhauls, and replace regular wear components as needed.

Perform electrical work on all vehicles as needed.

Use diagnostic equipment as an aid in locating vehicle defects.

Perform emission control repair, replacement and testing on all required vehicles.

Road test vehicles to locate operational defects prior to returning to active use.

Operate shop machinery as needed for repairs.

Field rescue, repair and maintenance of all Grounds equipment when needed.

Drive University vehicles and/or carts.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE:Monday – Friday6:00 am –2:30 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Four years experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automobiles and/or heavy equipment; OR Completion of a one year vocational training program in automotive mechanics AND three years experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automobiles, and/or heavy equipment; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in:

the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive, light equipment, or farm/landscape related machinery.

the repair and diagnosis of golf carts, Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV’s).

small engine/two cycle maintenance and repair.

using basic computer skills (e.g. Windows, Outlook, and MS Office).

Demonstrated knowledge:

in preventive maintenance techniques.

in the principles of an internal combustion engine including gasoline, diesel, and electric.

Evidence of effective communication skills.

Working Environment

Regularly exposed to potentially hazardous conditions requiring ability to hear, see and perform duties in restricted, congested and/or confined areas, dirty environment, and intense noise.

Exposure to natural weather patterns and circumstances, extreme heat/cold.

Regularly exposed to fumes, electricity, and vibrations.

Exposure to hazardous automotive related materials and moving mechanical parts.

Working conditions include prolonged periods of standing and sitting.

May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).

Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.

Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds regularly, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, and crawling.

Use of hand tools, power tools, and automotive shop related equipment.

Drive University vehicles and/or carts.
