Furniture Maker/Cabinet Maker for Pipe Organ Workshop
Overview
Ortloff Organ Company is seeking a skilled Furniture/Cabinet Maker to join our team of four in Needham where we design, build, and install pipe organs throughout the United States.
Our 4,000 square foot, air-conditioned shop in Needham Heights is flooded with natural light on a quiet street and is a delightful place to work. It is a five-minute walk from the Needham Heights commuter rail stop. The shop is outfitted with modern woodworking machines as well as a CNC router and state-of-the-art spray booth.
We work as a tight-knit, supportive, and collaborative team on projects that take months to years to complete. The ideal candidate will not only have experience in cabinet/furniture making and possess a strong attention to detail, but will be a good fit for our team.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret drawings
- Construct, assemble, and finish organ components including consoles, casework, and internal mechanism and structure
- Maintain woodworking machines including replacing knives, belts, etc., adjusting machines for precise operation, cleaning and lubricating
- Conduct quality checks on finished products
- Some travel required for installation, removal, and maintenance work (3-4 weeks/year)
Qualifications
- At least five years experience building and finishing furniture/cabinetry
- Operation and maintenance of woodworking machines
- Proficiency with hand tools
- Proficiency with both sprayed and hand-applied finishes
- Ability to work to very tight tolerances (±1/32")
- Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work within a team
- Musical skill/knowledge not required but is a plus
