Our Fleet Maintenance Department is an integral part in the everyday operations of Intercity Transit. They ensure that our vehicles are working efficiently, and riders are safely transported to where they need to go. We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Diesel Technician!

Then this position is for you:

We are looking for a highly skilled Diesel Technician to join our Fleet Maintenance team. This position is full time and performs mechanical tasks in the diagnosis of malfunctions, preventative maintenance, and repair including overhaul of diesel, gasoline, propane and hybrid powered vehicles and equipment. These positions are classified as safety-sensitive under Intercity Transit’s Drug and Alcohol Policy and included in the random drug testing program.

As a Diesel Technician, you will:

Perform routine safety and preventative maintenance inspections.

Troubleshoots, repairs and replaces parts as needed.

Diagnose electrical problems; install and repair electrical components and wiring.

Diagnose and repair highly complex, electronically controlled systems, including but not limited to engine/transmission/ABS and various multiplexing systems.

Repair and/or replace differentials, drive lines, wheel bearings, and steering components.

Inspect, test, adjust, repair, and or replace integral parts of vehicle engine, electronic fuel injection systems, alternator, water pump, and transmissions.

Engineers, implements, and records various campaigns and modifications of vehicle systems.

Uses the Fleet-Net database to record all time spent and parts used.

Are you the one we are looking for?

High School Diploma or GED

Successful completion of appropriate schools relating to diesel powered vehicles.

Four (4) years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair OR any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.

Successful candidates may be hired at the Technician 1 or journey level Technician level, depending on qualifications.

Highly desirable qualifications include:

ASE Master Certification (premium pay for ASE Auto/Light Truck or Transit Coach)

Class B Commercial Driver’s License w/passenger endorsement - (or with our training program be able to obtain within 6-month probationary period)

Working knowledge of Windows computer programs and data entry.

Current knowledge in the use of electronic diagnostic equipment and methods.

Knowledge of, medium and heavy-duty diesel engines; transmissions, braking systems, steering and suspension systems.

Must pass a post job-offer employment related physical examination to include a drug and alcohol screen prior to appointment.

Must be willing o submit a criminal background investigation, the results of which must meet the agency's hiring criteria.

We operate 24/7, so you must be available to work shifts that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

You must have a complete set of hand tools and toolbox at time of appointment.

Intercity Transit no longer requires employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.

Wage range is $37.47 to $43.48 per hour for Technician.

Technicians can earn an additional $2.00/hour for being ASE Certified.
