Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in Accra, Ghana

As an Electrical Engineer, you will support the renovation and expansion of the USAID Mission in Accra, Ghana. This role involves providing comprehensive engineering and construction quality assurance, and technical oversight for the USAID Accra Densification Project.

The project involves renovating and expanding the USAID Annex building in Accra, which includes the first, second, and third floors. The scope includes densifying the General Work Area (GWA) on the first and second floors and possibly adding offices on the third floor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform technical inspections of electrical work, ensuring compliance with design documents and specifications

Monitor the contractor’s quality control program and review engineering shop drawings

Observe onsite construction to ensure proper installation and execution of electrical systems

Ensure contractor's work adheres to contract requirements and resolve any issues

Monitor construction progress relative to the project schedule

Submit weekly progress reports and make recommendations based on technical reviews and field inspections

Review contractor submittals, assess compliance with contract requirements, and address Requests for Information (RFI)

Evaluate proposed substitutions with engineering implications and prepare Monthly Progress Reports

Support the development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs) for modifications and change orders

Ensure proper documentation of construction activities and compliance with safety regulations

Conduct inspections of electrical installations, punch-listing, and ensure adherence to current electrical codes applicable to systems furniture installations.

Qualifications to be successful in the role: 

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university

Professional Engineering (PE) is acceptable in lieu of a degree

Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in construction projects of similar scope and dollar value. Design office experience is not considered

Overseas experience preferred

Fire alarm and Mechanical System experience

Must possess or be able to obtain a Final Secret, Interim Top Secret, or Final Top Secret clearance issued by the Defense Counter Intelligence and Security Agency (DCSA)

Knowledge of International Codes, and construction safety regulations (e.g., EM 385-1-1, OSHA)

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) required

Familiarity with current electrical codes is essential

Experience in construction management, project management, and supervision related to electrical and telecom systems, particularly in fit-outs and renovations

Experience in reviewing and evaluating design calculations and data from an engineering perspective

Experience in assessing and responding to Requests for Information (RFI)

Experience with previous DOS projects is preferred

Ability to perform inspections on active construction sites and identify non-code compliant electrical installations

Strong working knowledge of electrical codes as they apply to systems furniture installations.

Work Environment:

The position will be primarily on-site at the USAID Mission in Accra, Ghana, located at No. 24, Fourth Circular Road, Cantonments.

Travel Requirement:

Travel may be required; specific travel needs will be identified and funded as necessary.
