STERILE PROCESSING TECHNICIAN
The starting rate for this position is: $16.08 Rate of pay displayed reflects the beginning of the pay scale. Job Summary The Sterile Processing technician performs all decontamination duties, duties associated with the preparation and packing of items to be sterilized or cleaned for reuse accurately and timely, operates all departmental equipment, and completes other tasks as assigned, utilizing proper personal protective equipment, in a manner which reflects the Mission & Core Values of St. Joseph Hospital, and Standards of Excellence (Policy HR-48) Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
Completes decontamination duties in a timely and efficient manner observing all personal safety guidelines.
Receives, sorts, and processes all reusable supplies, instruments and equipment. Returns clean instruments (ready for processing) to the Process area.
Assembles and packages instrumentation for sterilization and use in surgery, inspecting instrumentation for serviceability and cleanliness during the assembly process
Operates all departmental equipment, recognizes malfunctions, and can explain and complete all quality assurance indicators associated with each piece of equipment per established guidelines and procedures.
Keeps abreast with changes in departmental policy and procedure. Participates in departmental meetings and in-services.
Prepares scheduled case cart orders and delivers to Operating prior to beginning of scheduled case. Completes STAT, emergency and back-up case carts as requested.
Maintains accurate log of items needed to complete incomplete case carts.
Properly prepares items for sterilization, specialty carts, and baskets in a timely and efficient manner per established guidelines and procedures. Identifies and corrects, or reports, problems. Follows departmental guidelines in task performance.
Follows through on am/pm pick-up: Returns clean reusable equipment to storage areas for distribution per established guidelines and procedures.
Routinely cleans equipment according to daily assignments (autoclaves), shelving, and supply carts.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area, following all personal safety guidelines, and completes scheduled assignments in a timely manner, assisting coworkers when his/her assignments are completed. Inspects, de-lints, folds and wraps reusable linens for sterilization. Prepares sterile reprocessed inventory needs for department as assigned assuring proper stock rotation.
Unsupervised call-back hours are used efficiently, ensuring timely reprocessing and best use of call-back overall, to include soiled pick-up and processing of items retrieved.

Job Requirements: (education and experience/preferred and required)
Job Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrates proficiency related to decontamination, preparation and packing of kits as well as other responsibilities related to the care and handling of re-usable supply.
Utilizes time effectively and ensures that delegated tasks and responsibilities have been satisfactorily completed.
Demonstrates proper use of protective personal equipment.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Possess or obtain Registered CSR Tech- Certified C.S. Technician status preferred
1 - 3 years Central Sterile Supply or related experience preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Must p ossess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
