Overview
The Low Voltage Technician (Technician) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of low voltage systems including CCTV, security systems, fire alarms, distributed antenna systems (DAS), and audio/visual (A/V) equipment. The role requires excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. They are responsible for onsite coordination with the General Contractor and other trades as necessary, maintaining safety conditions, quality standards, and for ensuring the work is completed within the required codes and standards associated with low voltage regulations.
This is a non-exempt position and reports to the superintendent of our Network Services department.
Responsibilities
Installation and Setup:
Install and configure CCTV cameras and related equipment, ensuring optimal performance and coverage.
Set up and integrate security systems including alarms, access controls, and monitoring systems.
Install and program fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Deploy and calibrate distributed antenna systems (DAS) to enhance signal coverage and performance.
Set up and test audio/visual equipment for various applications, including conferencing, presentations, and entertainment.
Read and interpret various blueprints, diagrams, submittals, and product manuals to properly install, program, and verify systems
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on installed systems to ensure proper functionality.
Diagnose and repair faults in CCTV, security, fire alarm, DAS, and A/V systems.
Replace or upgrade components as needed, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
Customer Interaction:
Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide technical support.
Offer training to clients on system operation and troubleshooting basic issues.
Provide training and instruction to customers on device use, preventative care, and on-going maintenance to prevent future system malfunctions
Identify opportunities for additional equipment and services that customers may need
Discuss deficiencies noted with customer, explaining the problem and its resolution
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Prepare detailed reports and documentation for each project or service call.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to protect oneself and others during installations and repairs.
Identify code and non-conformance issues and correct according to code standards
Qualifications
We are seeking someone who has their Washington Limited Energy System (EL06) license and preferably 5 or more years of experience.
Working knowledge of various low voltage systems including but limited to Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion, Network Cabling, Fiber Optic Cabling and termination, ERRC Distributed Antenna Systems, etc.
Knowledge of the NEC and NFPA standards and codes
NICET Level 2 Certification preferred
Seattle FA-1 card a plus
A valid drivers license with a clean driving record
This is a union bargaining position and must be either a member of IBEW Local 46 or willing to become a member
Skills and Abilities
Success in this role requires exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure, advanced technical skills with fire alarm and electronic security systems and proven ability to troubleshoot and problems and find solutions
Additional Skills that will contribute to success in this role include:
Strong electrical aptitude and ability to read blueprints and drawings
Math skills including calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis

Hourly Rate: Ranges from $47.24 for Journeyman Technician up to $56.69 for General Foreman
