JOB POSTING: DRILLER AND/OR A DRILLER’S ASSISTANT (A.K.A. HELPER/DRILLER-IN-TRAINING)

Hey! Odell Drilling, Inc. is looking to grow the next generation of Geotech Drillers and Helpers.

Seeking qualified drillers and assistants (“Helpers"). No experience required to start as a Helper.

Starting pay ranges from $20/hour and goes up to $30/hour depending on your drilling experience. Overtime opportunities are plentiful (time and a half). This can quickly become a steady career for a motivated candidate.

Guaranteed annual pay raises//bonuses & profit-sharing//Healthcare//Dental//Matching Retirement Simple IRA//Paid Time Off//Paid Holidays.

Odell is based in Englewood (Sheridan), Colorado. It’s been around since 1996 and is owned, managed, and staffed by good people!

So, the first job requirement: be good people. We’re looking for honest, hardworking, and easygoing yet capable people to join our team.

This type of drilling is in the geotechnical/pre-construction industry. Crews drill for core-samples and the company is subcontracted by geotechnical and environmental engineering firms. (Odell Drilling does not drill for oil or water).

Primary requirements (this is geared to the Helper—if you’re a driller, this still applies):

Assist the driller as a member of a two-man crew operating a truck-mounted mobile drill rig. We run CME 45’s and 55’s.

Must be able to work on a team and take direction from the driller and the on-site field engineer.

Must present a professional image with clients to include being respectful, humble, approachable, and generally patient.

Must be teachable and willing to learn.

Need a clean Motor Vehicle Record (no DUI/Interlock devices, SR-22s etc.) and unrestricted license.

Must be willing to learn to drive large single-axle non-CDL trucks (10,000-26,000 lbs.).

Ideally, be able to drive a manual transmission as half of our fleet are manuals—but we can teach you if you can’t.

Heavy lifting is required daily (i.e. 50 lb. augers, tooling, etc.). You will get stronger in this job.

Must be able to get to work (Sheridan, CO) by 6 to 630 am every day. Work days can be 8 to 10+ hours a day. Days average 8-9 hours.

Additional items:

Mechanic knowledge and experience is highly desired as crews routinely must fix maintenance issues on-site and back at the shop.

In addition to the drilling itself, there are regular situations that require repair work, fabrication, and overall mechanical challenges.

Any welding experience is desired.

Travel:

You get to see a different job site every day. Most work is in the Colorado Front Range, but day jobs can take you anywhere in Colorado.

Some jobs do require overnight stays in locations around Colorado and the surrounding states. However, 95% of jobs are during working hours and crews are home at night. Some drill companies do travel a lot, but Odell is not typically one of them.

Other:

People with no drilling experience will be trained as a Helper. Additionally, Helpers can gain experience and earn the chance to train as a driller.

Starting pay for an untrained candidate is $20.00/hour (bumped to $21.00/hour after 60-day probationary period). Overtime (time and half pay) occurs after 12 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.

Finallyif you are unsure about whether you're qualified or not for this type of work, please know that we value attitude and work ethic above all else, including experience. So, give us a call or shoot us an email. Thanks.

Phone: 303-697-2271 (this is a land line, so leave a voicemail if we don’t answer, sorry no texts)
