This is a mid-level project manager position that involves partnering with principal investigators and leading technical research teams to support the execution of high-profile projects for the Department of Energy. The candidate’s project portfolio may span grid communications, grid modeling, and use of advanced analytic tools to enable grid modernization planning. Management of these projects will require technical domain knowledge and ability to oversee research teams and engage with effectively with federal sponsors, utilities, regulators, and other stakeholders.Responsibilities of this position may include (but are not limited to):

Provide management oversight and technical direction on small to mid-sized projects or tasks with moderate complexity and risks.

Effectively coordinate project team resources across multiple organizations, as well as line managers and other internal stakeholders.

Determine and manage project scope, schedule, budget and manage challenges impacting the immediate teams.

Foster strong working-level relationships with funding sponsor representatives.

Support proposal development efforts.

Attain proficiency with PNNL project management systems, tools, and policies.

Maintain knowledge competency in project management principals and industry best practices.

Mentor junior level staff and leverage role as a project manager to facilitate career development of other staff.

The successful candidate will be accountable to the Energy Systems Engineering Group Leader and the Team Leader for general staff performance and development, and operational discipline (e.g., maintaining training qualifications, procedural compliance, safe operations); and will work with project management office directors, and principal investigators to ensure delivery of project work on time and within budget.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant project management experience -OR-

MS/MA or higher and 5+ years of relevant project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or similar technical degree or equivalent experience, that demonstrates strong fundamental understanding of engineering principles in the electric system.

Experience working on challenges related to grid modernization and renewable energy integration.

Experience working on U.S. Department of Energy funded projects.

Experience coordinating with electric power utilities and regulatory bodies.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.

Experience working with multi-organization teams and diverse stakeholders.

Certification as a Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent, in good standing, is desirable.
