Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Virginia Mason Franciscan Health(VMFH) Laboratory Assistant Trainer (or designee) and duration of the assignment is limited to amaximum of eight weeks from the initial date of hire.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:● Receives on-the-job training for collecting samples, within scope of practice, to includevenipuncture, capillary procedures, and special collections on pediatric and adult inpatient andoutpatient populations using safety devices and tools appropriate for the situation.● Receives on-the-job training for urine drug collection/testing and breath alcohol testing accordingto DOT standards.● Provides communications support using established customer service standards.● Accesses hospital and lab information system programs to train on ordering, sample labeling, log-in, test cancellation, test add-on, etc. and final disposition into the sample inventorysystem/storage program.● Receives on-the-job training relating to processing duties and preparing samples for testing toinclude: validating patient identity, labeling, centrifugation, aliquoting, and preserving sampleintegrity; follows specific guidelines producing test-ready samples for delivery for testing orpackaging for dispatch.● Receives on-the-job training relating to completing follow up protocol and maintaining audit trailfor ambiguous orders or issues to bring resolution to concerns in accordance with departmentprocedures.QualificationsEducation/Work Experience Requirements● Completion of a basic phlebotomy course at a vocational college or equivalent technical school,including completion of a 4-week internship in Phlebotomy in a clinical lab setting.Licensure/Certification● Current Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant OR● Current Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist within 60 days of dateof hire.Pay Range$17.12 - $23.54 /hourWe are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
