Bridge Design Engineer - 2845DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

What you'll be challenged to do:

The Mechanicsburg (Harrisburg) office seeks a highly motivated Structural/Bridge Engineer with 5-10 years of experience in bridge design to join our established transportation practice. In this role you will be responsible for the successful performance of structural design/analysis of bridges along with the preparation of construction plans, project specifications, and quantity/cost estimates. You will also work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects, including bridge, roadway, and traffic.It is expected that you will function as a lead technical design engineer and depending on level of experience, you may also serve as the Project Manager of various projects. It is expected that you will work independently and will supervise the work of less experienced engineers and mentor them as you help to develop their technical and inter-personal skills.You will be mentored by our senior staff and have the opportunity to engage and assist with new project pursuits, including Qualifications and Technical Proposal preparation, Scope of Service and Fee Proposal development, and networking opportunities through professional society events.Primary Responsibilities (others may be included): Bridge Design, contract plans preparation and specifications requiring quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets and schedules

Developing and analyzing design options

Maintaining organized design calculation and project data

Performing load ratings analysis

Calculation of quantities and development of cost estimates

Office support for construction support services

Work with contractor or other consultants to develop demolition and erection plans, temporary sheeting, cofferdam designs, and temporary supports

Review shop drawing submittals

Address questions from contractors during the construction phases of structures

Act as task manager and/or Engineer of RecordQualifications

What you bring to our firm:

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university.

Minimum of 5 years of related bridge design experience.

Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania.

Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in design of basic bridges (concrete, miscellaneous structures and retaining walls.

Experience with Bentley MicroStation

Working knowledge with Microsoft Windows Office Suite

Experience with PennDOT Design, Rating, and Inspection programs, familiar with engineering design packages such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.

Master's degree in civil/structural engineering

Experience in more advanced bridge design (i.e. steel girders, steel substructure)

Successful completion of NHI Course 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges and are current on NHI Course 130053A Bridge Inspection Refresher Training (if applicable).

Experience with advanced commercial structural software (CSiBridge, Midas, STAAD, SAP, etc)Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
