Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm

Light Auto/Equipment Mechanic Pay: Starting at $22.83 hourly (additional pay incentives for ASE certifications and CDL license)

Heavy Equipment Mechanic Pay: Starting at $29.14 hourly (additional pay incentives for ASE certifications and CDL license)

Light Auto/Equipment Mechanic

Job Description:

This is a skilled position for repair and maintenance of light duty automotive and equipment service work.

An employee in this class is responsible for mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive and related equipment. The employee is responsible for diagnosing and executing repairs needed, reporting time and supplies used on each vehicle serviced or repaired, and ordering parts. The work is assigned by means of verbal and written orders and is carried out independently by the employee in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

Minimum Requirements:

Sufficient education to read and understand technical material and prepare simple written reports and enter data electronically into the City’s fleet management system.

Three (3) years of experience as an automotive mechanic.

Or

Combination of education, training and/or work experience equal to or higher than the requirements listed above as determined by Human Resources.

Provides a basic minimum set of mechanic tools as required by Fleet Management.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.

Valid and current Class-E driver’s license.

Proficiency in brakes, suspension, tune-ups, drivability and a/c systems.

All technicians must acquire the HVAC 609 Certification provided by Fleet Management if they are not already 609 HVAC Certified within one year of employment.

Achievement of highly related job skills (above basic requirements) will be provided compensation for skills mastered pursuant to the City of Pensacola Premium Pay Guidelines effective 10-1-2020.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Description:

This is skilled heavy duty truck and equipment mechanical work approaching the journeyman level.

An employee in this class is responsible for performing skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of heavy duty trucks and specialized heavy equipment. The employee is responsible for diagnosing and executing repairs needed, reporting time and supplies used on each vehicle serviced or repaired, and ordering parts. The work is assigned by means of verbal and written orders and is carried out independently by the employee in accordance with stan¬dard practices of the trade.

Minimum Requirements:

Sufficient education to read and understand technical material and prepare simple written reports and enter data electronically into the City’s fleet management system.

Three (3) years of experience as a medium duty/heavy duty truck or heavy equipment mechanic.

Or

Combination of education, training, and/or work experience equal to or higher than the requirements listed above as determined by Human Resources.

Provides a basic minimum set of mechanics tools as required by Fleet Management.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.

Knowledge of hydraulic systems operation. Knowledgeable of diagnostic procedures for checking fluid flow rates, pressure settings and associated adjustments.

Knowledge of air brake operating systems, diagnostic procedures and performance standards.

Ability to perform full airbrake service in compliance with FMCSR requirements.

All technicians must currently hold, or acquire the 609 HVAC Certification and Airbrake Certification provided by Fleet Management within one year of employment.
