Who You AreUnder direct supervision, independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. With additional experience within one functional area, assists in the design of larger and more complex assignments which involve conventional types of plans, investigations and surveys with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents. Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability or operations.This role will be located in Chantilly, VA, and will be expected to travel between our facilities in Chantilly and Springfield, VA. This position is expected to be onsite 100%. This is a continent position based on contract awardWhat You’ll DoAs a Fire Alarm and Suppression Systems Technician, you will:

Evaluate and Select Engineering Techniques: Independently evaluate and select standard engineering techniques and procedures for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm and suppression systems.

Apply Engineering Criteria: Utilize judgment to make minor adaptations and modifications to engineering plans and designs as required.

Assist in Complex Design Tasks: With gained experience, assist in the design of larger and more complex fire alarm and suppression system projects that include conventional plans and few complex features.

Perform Investigations and Surveys: Conduct investigations and surveys to assess current systems and identify areas for improvement or potential issues.

Ensure Compliance: Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and best practices to maintain safety and operational efficiency.

Monitor System Performance: Regularly monitor the performance of fire alarm and suppression systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and efficiently.

Document Activities: Maintain accurate documentation of all inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs performed, including any adaptations or modifications made to the systems.

Contribute to Cost Efficiency: Execute job tasks in a manner that impacts cost containment, efficiency, and profitability, ensuring optimal operational performance.

Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure that all aspects of the fire safety systems are integrated and functioning properly within the overall safety infrastructure of the facility.

Provide Technical Support: Offer technical support and guidance on the operation and maintenance of fire alarm and suppression systems to facility management and other stakeholders.

Engage in Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest technologies and standards in fire safety to continuously improve skills and knowledge in the field.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED: Required as a basic educational foundation.

Technical or Vocational Training: Training from a technical school or community college in fire technology, electrical systems, or a related field is highly recommended.

NICET III Certification: Certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) in fire alarm systems or fire suppression systems is highly valued.

State Licensing: Some states require specific licensing for technicians working on fire alarm and suppression systems.

Continuing Education: Ongoing education in the latest fire protection technology and codes

Relevant Experience: Experience working with fire alarm and suppression systems, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, typically at least 5+ years.

Project Assistance Experience: Experience assisting in the design and implementation of larger and more complex fire safety systems projects.

Analytical Thinking: Capable of understanding and interpreting complex system diagrams and technical documents.

Safety Awareness: High level of safety awareness to ensure all work complies with the latest safety standards.

Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to new technologies and methods in the evolving field of fire protection.

Availability: Willingness to work on-call for emergencies or system failures outside of normal business hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in Engineering and minimum of 2 years related experience, with typical experience ranging from 3-7 years.

Clearance: Must possess an active U.S Government Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility required. Willingness to take a polygraph and upgrade clearance as required. Basic Compensation: $81, 765.00 - $122,590.00The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity. Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
