Hiring: Facilities Caretaker for Allegheny Mountain Institute
Position: Facilities Caretaker (Part-Time)
Location: On-Site at Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI) – Highland County, VA
Hours: Part-time, year-round - up to 24 hours per week
About the Role: As the Facilities Caretaker, you’ll maintain our farm’s facilities, equipment, and land, ensuring everything runs smoothly. You’ll work closely with our Farm Manager to ensure our operations run smoothly.
What We’re Looking For: We’re seeking a hands-on, jack-of-all-trades individual.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain farm roads
Monitor and manage water systems and fences.
Operate heavy machinery and maintain all equipment.
Routine inspection/troubleshooting of buildings, including regular gutter clearing, removal of brush and limbs overhanging buildings.
Repair fences, including electric fences.
Check and maintain farm perimeter and boundary postings.
Repairs or overseeing of repairs on facilities, including locating and managing sub-contractors.
Collaborate with the Farm Manager and AMI staff.
Mowing fields and farm; including removal of invasive species
Assist with heavy lifting/moving as needed.
What You Bring:
Experience in farm and facilities management.
Experience in operating and maintaining heavy machinery and equipment
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Physical stamina for outdoor work in all weather conditions; Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate heavy machinery
Compensation: Hourly rate commensurate with experience. Workers' compensation coverage included.
