Job DescriptionLocation: Chicago, ILHospital: RUSH University Medical CenterDepartment: PharmacyWork Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)Shift: Shift 3Work Schedule: 10 Hr (9:00:00 AM - 7:00:00 AM)Summary:The Pharmacist may fill the role of a number of different positions in the department. The Pharmacist may work in central operations, or in a satellite. He/she may work a day, evening, or overnight shifts. The shift the Pharmacist works will reflect the training and skill set that the pharmacist has. Operations role: The scope shall include operational responsibility for order verification, IV therapy, total parenteral nutrition, automated dispensing cabinets (ADC), oral drug compounding/repackaging, dispensing and delivery of medications. Assessment of current IV clean rooms with USP 797 regulations including necessary staff education will also be a focus. Central Pharmacy/Satellite role: Reviewing and verifying medication orders in Epic for accuracy and safety. This role will respond to questions from nursing and physicians about missing doses and medication questions (dosing, appropriateness in therapy, formulary, etc). DoseEdge order review and approval. Appropriate phone etiquette and multi-tasking is vitally important in this role. Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be flexible with work schedule. Dependable attendance and job performance. Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Illinois.Responsibilities:
Understanding workflows within the central pharmacy with regards to Pyxis and patient specific order filling in order to check orders coming out of the carousel and and IV room, as well as those prepared by technicians.
Knowledge of USP 797 clean rooms and workflow in IV rooms in the central pharmacy for order checking, including TPN preparation when necessary.
Evaluate and verify Epic physician's orders for therapeutic appropriateness, proper dosing, optimal dosage form, drug interactions, allergic reactions, route and rate of administration and therapeutic redundancy.
Clarifies physicians' orders, when necessary, through direct and timely contact with prescriber or designated practitioner.
Provides patient-specific pharmacotherapy recommendations and drug information to the medical and nursing staff.
Documentation of clinical interventions.
Uphold departmental, and institutional, policy as appropriate.
Understand the operations of the Central Pharmacy and Tower pharmacies, and assist with the staffing the area when needed.
Act in a backup role for technician lead to address technician sick calls in reassigning shift changes.
Assist with other departmental quality initiatives which may arise during the time of service in the department.
