Patient Services Coordinator / Nursing P9 - Surgical Urology & Orthopedics
The Patient Services Coordinator on the Surgical Urology & Orthopedic unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center coordinates and schedules patient appointments and has direct impact on patient care services.The schedule will be three 12 hour shifts each week. This is a 32-bed Surgical Urology & Orthopedic unit for adult patient population. This fast-paced environment has rapid turnover for surgical procedures, which include: postoperative prostatectomy, cystectomy, penectomy, nephrectomy, and orthopedic surgeries.Nursing division surgical units provide care for patients that require complex postoperative nursing care, including pain management, frequent monitoring, management of complex wounds and cardiac monitoring. Complex surgical procedures, common to MD Anderson, include hemipelvectomies, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPECs) and microvascular reconstructive surgeries. Advises patients and family members of available services. Handles and processes a complex and varied set of documents and situations. Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures and treatments. Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, prepayment and financial counseling to patients, families, physicians, team members and other patient care areas. Interprets and coordinates physician orders. Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records. Updates relevant patient information in order to maintain an accurate patient record. Reviews and reconciles patient charge documents and collects payments in accordance with established departmental processes and guidelines. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Assists in ensuring a safe environment for patients, co-workers and visitors.EDUCATION:Required: High school diploma or equivalent.Preferred: Completed Associate's or Bachelor's degree.EXPERIENCE:Required: Three years of relevant work experience.
