pottery studio production assistant
vitrifiedstudio is hiring !
We are hoping to find a new team member who is able to join our production team. This is a position for someone with experience in glazing, and stamping pottery, adobe graphics programs, and also experience working in a production studio. The studio is fast paced, the work aims to be high quality heirloom pieces, and every piece we make is cherished by our customers so we need someone fully committed to what we create. We need someone who works well in a team setting. We would love a team member that knows how to work in a ceramics/ pottery studio, someone who has an interest in working with us and can work professionally, efficiently, and skillfully.
This position will start with training in the stamping and glazing stations and working within adobe photoshop and illustrator. We will be working on all phases of our vitrifiedstudio collection, from custom stamp creation to stamping the pieces by hand, and glazing. Wheel throwing experience is not needed, but it would be good to know that you are well versed in a pottery studio. We will also need help with customer service emails, packing / shipping, loading / unloading the kiln, and studio cleaning. We use Etsy and Shopify for our online shop, and experience on the custom service/ shop management side of those platforms would be great. We also use photoshop and illustrator for our custom designs, and that could be really helpful if you had those skills. We also have a slip cast portion of the studio, and in the future there is a chance that station would also need assistance. The most important part of the position is the hardest to describe. We make handmade custom urns, and we care deeply about our products. We love helping our customers, we love the work we make for them, and we know the significance of what we are making. This is not an ordinary production pottery studio. The things we make are often the hardest purchase a customer needs to make. The urns are often the most precious item that our customers will have. They will hold the cremated remains of their beloved person or pet. It will likely take you some time to get used to this, as it can be difficult at times to make and see urns all day long. Customer service is very difficult because we are assisting our customers (online only) at a very difficult time. But it is our dedication to creating these perfect urns, and feeling proud of what we are able to create as a team that also gives us the most fulfillment. It is important to us that we find a team member with a positive attitude and has the ability to work well as a team member. This is NOT a position for someone trying to simultaneously launch or run their own business, but we are looking for someone with a strong interest to grow with us. We hope to find someone who wants to join us in this very special studio.
This position starts at $20-25/hr, and would go up based on your prior experience and with raises after training is complete. We can work with you to discuss the time, but generally it will be within our studio work time of 9-4 M-F. The hours per week can be discussed, this could be a 20 hour to 40 hour week position, depending on your interest. Our beautiful studio is located in a cute neighborhood in South Portland.
Please contact us via email with your resume and work sample photos. Also let us know why you would like to work for us and what your own goals would be to make this position fit best for you. Let us know about your skills, experience, and your own ambitions. Let us know your availability as we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
