Seeking Engineers for Hurricanes Helene and Milton Recovery (Travel)

Looking for Independent Contractors (ICs) who are Civil Engineers and Construction Managers to support FEMA's Hurricanes Helene and Milton disaster recovery efforts in Florida for a minimum of 18 months with opportunity to extend.

After completing training, ICs will join teams and work directly with municipal and not-for-profit agencies that are responsible for public welfare and resources. Specifically, ICs will work with them day-to-day to help them apply for federal aid as part of FEMA's Public Assistance Program. To do so, ICs should have:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

o Knowledge of design, construction, and maintenance of facilities, equipment, natural resources, and/or infrastructure

o Knowledge of cost estimation of repairs

o Knowledge of relevant federal and local rules, regulations, and safety codes

o Skill to use computers and smart phones effectively

o Ability to communicate complex technical issues in plain language

o Ability to manage the physical demands of viewing sites and locations that have sustained damage

Education, Certifications, and Experience

o Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university required

o Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience required

o Licensed PE in Florida preferred

Customer-Focus

Most importantly, ICs must be highly ethical individuals who thrive on customer service. ICs must be motivated by helping communities recover as they may operate under minimal supervision and under difficult working conditions (see below).

Working conditions can be difficult on disaster recovery operations. ICs must be prepared to commit to the following:

o Work up to 10 hours per day, up to 6 days per week

o 18 month minimum with opportunity to extend

o Pass a federal security check that includes confirmation of US citizenship, FBI background check, and credit check

o If not local, accept limited opportunity to travel home during assignments, typically every 60 days for 1-2 weeks
