Are you a young adult (current college student or recent graduate) with a passion for leadership, education, and cultural exchange? Our local educational organization is seeking motivated young adults to lead small groups of high school students from Japan in immersive activities that promote English practice and explore Hawaii's rich history, culture, and people.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an English-Speaking Leader, you will be guiding a group of 6-7 Japanese high school students through fun, educational activities designed to improve their English skills and introduce them to Hawaii's diverse culture. Our programs are hosted throughout the year, so you can sign up for the sessions that fit your schedule—no need to commit to every event!

UPCOMING MAJOR PROGRAM DATES: October 21st & 22nd, 2024

We are hosting two large programs at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and we need as many leaders as possible to accommodate nearly 200 students over two days. You do not need to attend both dates, but we encourage all interested applicants to register and learn about future opportunities as well.

OCTOBER 21 & 22 HIGHLIGHTS

Time & Location: 7:45 a.m. - 4:35 p.m., University of Hawaii at Manoa

Activities Include:

English conversation practice

Cultural presentations about Hawaii (presented by you!)

Fun comparison/contrast activity between Japan and Hawaii

Hawaii trivia game

Scavenger hunt across the UH campus

Lesson on the "Aloha Spirit"

Group poster project on the "Aloha Spirit"

Lunch at the campus cafeteria and exploration of the bookstore

Requirements:

Leaders will need to prepare a short PowerPoint presentation about their own life and experiences in Hawaii to help students learn about the local community and the importance of diversity.

Compensation:

$14.50/hour

+1 hour Zoom orientation

+1 hour of presentation prep time

+$15.00 sign-on bonus!
