At our Clayton Machine Design Center (CMDC) located in Clayton, NC, our teams of engineers and technicians provide value to our global customers, both internally and externally, by helping design, develop, understand, optimize, test, validate, and support Caterpillar hydraulic systems for our market leading machines such as Backhoe Loaders, Hydraulic Excavators, Small Bulldozers and Skid Steer Loaders. If you are a self-driven engineer eager to accelerate your career in hydraulic component and systems development, we have a great opportunity for you as a Senior Design Engineer!Hydraulics are what drives the linkages and propulsion of our BCP earthmoving machines, and they are critical to our customers for getting their work done. As an engineer on the Hydraulic Component Team, you will build your network through interfacing with suppliers and collaborating with other Caterpillar team members to provide hydraulic component solutions for all the BCP product families. You will develop your expertise in all the different types of hydraulic components and circuits used on Cat® machines.  You will have significant opportunity to assist in solving complex technical problems while growing and demonstrating your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts. Initially, you will focus on Main Control Valves, Hand Metering Units, and Hydraulic Swivels but could expand into other hydraulic components. Your experiences will include machine operation, international travel, problem solving, and strong technical collaboration to improve machine performance, cost, and reliability.What You Will Do:

Develop new hydraulic system and component solutions.

Develop original or innovative approaches to engineering design, cost reduction, and problem solving.

Interface with hydraulic component suppliers to understand the design, fabrication, and use of their components.

Oversee the detailing and releasing of engineering drawings for the hydraulic components for which you are responsible.

Maintain CAD for hydraulic components (we use Creo).

Research and explore new technology.

Promote quality and continuous improvement philosophy.

Deepen your knowledge base of Caterpillar products, technologies, processes, services, and systems.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

Degree/experience requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a technical curriculum.

Engineering Experience: Progressive and relevant experience in hydraulic systems and components.

Product Design and Development: Knowledge of heavy equipment and/or construction machines and the ability to design, build, and develop a new product from concept through to production.

Technical Excellence: Candidate must have strong analytical skills. Incumbent will develop and provide solutions for significant technical issues related to quality, velocity, and cost objectives.

Effective Communication: Ability to communicate, collaborate, and build trust across a wide and diverse range of people – customers, internal partners, suppliers, engineers, and leadership team.
