Timing: 40 Hours Per Week
Compensation: $21-26 per hour, depending on experience
About The U District Partnership
The (UDP) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to serve all who work in, live in, and visit Seattle’s University District by fostering and sustaining a vibrant, diverse, and healthy neighborhood. UDP’s programs are evolving with the neighborhood as we provide services in several program areas: Economic Development, Urban Vitality and Placemaking, Cleaning, Public Safety, Homeless Outreach, Marketing, and Events. UDP is an independent nonprofit organization that is also partially funded by the U District Business Improvement Area (UDBIA) and serves residents, visitors, businesses and other stakeholders in Seattle’s University District neighborhood.
About the Clean Team Member Position
The Clean Team Member will report to the Clean & Safe Program Manger, with workflow directed by the Clean Team Supervisor. Their work will happen onsite, in the University District neighborhood. As part of The U District Partnership’s Clean Team, this position supports keeping the sidewalks, curbs, and other areas of the physical environment of the U District Business Improvement Area (UDBIA) clean and free of litter, trash, and other forms of debris, among other tasks contributing to the cleanliness of the neighborhood. All members of the Clean Team will be responsible for implementing and maintaining cleaning efforts throughout the U District.
Duties & Responsibilities
Sweep or remove all forms of litter from sidewalks, curbs, and other areas of public space
Remove debris from the building edges and curb lines to prevent accumulation or obstruction of storm drains
Remove from the right of way, and properly dispose of all biohazardous materials (i.e., human waste, hypodermic needles, etc.)
Provide customer service to visitors, business people, merchants, and residents of the U District
Additional Responsibilities
Remove graffiti from the public right of way as directed by the Clean & Safe Program Manager–including from buildings, sidewalks, and sidewalk/street fixtures, etc.
Perform seasonal leaf blowing and cultivation as required
Perform seasonal watering of flower baskets
Support placemaking efforts by setting up umbrellas and maintaining programmed spaces, such as UDP-operated outdoor dining areas
Support cleaning efforts of UPD-produced events
Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
Weeding
Public realm infrastructure maintenance and management
Painting
Landscaping
Training
Handy work involving basic tools
Qualifications
Self-motivated, energetic learner and leader with a good sense of humor
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with groups and the public
Ability to follow instructions and see tasks through to completion
Ability to maintain a clean, neat appearance
Knowledge of the U District is a plus
Must pass pre-employment screening
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Ability to work in an outdoor setting, in all seasons and amongst all types of waste
Ability to conduct regular repeated tasks including: sweeping, removing litter and other debris, removing graffiti, leaf blowing, power washing, pushing around a garbage can, use of a ladder, lifting full garbage bags and other litter
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Hourly Rate: $21-26 per hour, depending on experience
