Several hundred employees support our operations in accounting and finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, engineering, and more. Our virtual internship program allows interns to work virtually as well as come together in person when needed at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix and/or one of our site locations. Interns can work remotely from most states in the U.S., with the exception of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Additional states may be excluded from virtual work based on business factors. DescriptionUnder general supervision, performs project work that assists the Land and Water department.

Assisting with the development of Data Management tool to access, store, manage and disseminate Land and Water data files, publications, maps and reports in an electronic format

Work closely with Land and Water staff to collect hydrologic data and land information and then catalogue information currently available in multiple formats for easy access in a data management tool

Help train staff at various sites to access a data management tool and for continued population of information

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:

Full-time student currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university majoring in Environmental Sciences or related field (Resource Management, Hydrology, Computer Data Storage, Library Science, Political Science, Information Technology, Basic Science) OR

Recent college graduate having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date with a degree in Environmental Sciences or related field (Resource Management, Hydrology, Computer Data Storage, Library Science, Political Science, Information Technology, Basic Science)

Exposure to data management software

Exposure to research tools and some GIS link capabilities

Exposure to the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Possesses strong data analysis and problem-solving skills

Highly accurate and detail oriented

Possesses strong oral and written communication skills

Demonstrates initiative, organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure

Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment

Must be able to demonstrate our core values of honesty, fairness, respect, trust, and integrity

Criteria/Conditions:

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

Compensation:The estimated pay range for this role is currently $25.75 - $32.25/hour. Individual pay rates will be based on level of education and relevant experience.Safety/Work Conditions:Freeport-McMoRan has reviewed the jobs at its various office and operating sites and determined that many of these jobs require employees to perform essential job functions that pose a direct threat to the safety or health of the employees performing these tasks or others.
