The Division has a workforce of over 550, with 460+ faculty members who are known for their outstanding research, teaching and patient care.The Division conducts its activities at the UW Medical Center (UWMC-Montlake and Northwest), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and VA Boise, with research sites located at multiple sites across Seattle. GIM has faculty in seven academic primary care clinics as well as in neighborhood clinics located across the Puget Sound, and manages inpatients at four Seattle area hospitals.GIM is the largest division in the Department of Medicine and includes both clinical and research functions with a total annual budget of over $110m. Faculty and staff are spread over 10+ sites around Seattle and the Puget Sound as well as in Boise, Idaho.The Division of General Internal Medicine has a great opportunity for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 3. POSITION PURPOSE

The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 will serve as a data manager checking incoming research data and getting them ready for statistical analyses which the team will implement to address substantively important questions on Alzheimer’s disease and the aging brain in aging bodies in several studies currently underway with Paul K. Crane and his lab (CPAAN; Center for Psychometric Analyses in Aging and Neurodegeneration). The position will include preparing datasets, integrating data management, conducting data analyses under general supervision. There will be tremendous opportunity to grow as part of a very productive team. The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 will be able to learn new methods from senior staff, and to work on projects of moderate size and scope.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 60% Prepare analytic datasets from complex data sources. Oversee code review and other quality control for another data manager. Communicate closely with research study personnel regarding changes and updates within the project.25% Conduct appropriate statistical analyses to address critically important questions on relationships between aging brains and aging bodies under supervision.Harmonize cognitive data from various research center, including quality check and cooperative maintenance of the item bank.

Collaborate with other investigators nationally and internationally on a variety of projects; identifying, developing and applying recent and new methodology; contribute to the organization and content of national and international meetings and workshops.

Conduct a wide variety of data analyses, including compiling results files, generating figures, and preparing tables. Models will include, but not limited to, survival analysis and mixed models, with careful diagnostics.

After any necessary training, perform sophisticated statistical analyses of complex cognitive testing and other psychometric data using structural models.10% Conduct preliminary statistical analyses for grant proposals.5% Under general supervision, write scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with relevant investigators at the University of Washington and at other institutions, foreign and domestic.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelors in Public Health, Biostatistics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field and four years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Statistical skills include:

Conducting a wide variety of statistical analyses, including various longitudinal models.

Proficiency in R, Stata, Python, and/or SAS.

Experience working with complex datasets.

Significant experience preparing data for analyses.Communication skills include:

Presenting complex methods and findings clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences, both orally and in writing.

The diplomacy needed for local, national, and international collaboration, the tenacity to see projects completed, and the positivity to be a supportive and effective team member.Other necessary skills include:

The ability to work well with other members of CPAAN team, managing dozens of papers and projects at the same time, always meeting key deadlines.

Meticulous attention to detail.

Organization and documentation habits so that research is easily reproducible. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Training in Epidemiology

Training in psychometric theory.

Experience with structural equations modeling.
