Kitchen Assistant
Bright Futures for Youth (BFFY) is providing another paid internship for one year, in the role of Kitchen Assistant. This is an ideal position for a person who is eager to learn more about how to work in a commercial kitchen and grow their kitchen/culinary skill set. This role will require a CA ServSafe Food Handler’s Certification, which is included in the training for the internship.
Previous experience is desired but not necessary. The applicant will receive training in a variety of skills and responsibilities to become an integral part of our Kitchen and Nutrition Program, serving after-school meals to school-age youth Monday through Friday, with occasional additional events. This is a part-time, non-exempt internship ranging from 20-29 hours per week for one year, and is supervised by the Kitchen and Nutrition Program Manager and Assistant Manager.
Duties:
The kitchen assistant position plays both the support and leadership roles. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Commercial food preparation
· Proper cooling and storage of ingredients and leftover food
· Mealtime- serving our youth with a smile!
· Cleaning - Dish washing, sanitizing equipment, sweeping, mopping
· Weekly deep cleaning – wiping walls, cleaning grease traps, cleaning floor drains, cleaning lower shelving, and other often overlooked areas
· Special event prep and service
· Working alongside and guiding our BFFY volunteers
· Inventory management
Qualifications:
· A desire to learn commercial cooking skills
· Ability to cooperate cheerfully with coworkers, supervisors, and our youth
· Attention to detail
· Ability to stand for extended periods
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to lift 50 lbs safely, possibly multiple times a day
· Because this is a grant-funded internship, the grant requires that the intern be between the ages of 16 and 30.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
