Nurse Practitioner - Medical Oncology (Breast) - THO Operations
Job DescriptionOur Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter- and intra-departmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management for Tower Hematology Oncology Medical Group (THOMG) patients. Our Nurse Practitioner’s practice incorporates both independent decision-making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients. Will be responsible to the physician partners and/or supervising physician and the Director of Clinical Operations/designee and functions as an integral part of the medical team.As a Nurse Practitioner, you will practice under the Board of Registered Nursing California code of regulations, Title 16, Article 8, Section 1480-1485, utilizing the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures. These are developed in a collaborative effort within the area of specialty incorporating THOMG goals and represent an interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will provide individualized care upholding THOMG philosophies including but not limited to care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, approved Standardized Procedures, Code of Ethics and Conduct, and organizational policies and procedures. Enhances competency skills through continuing education programs; demonstrates the ability to provide care to special patient population and those with diverse cultural background. Will perform all job duties with sensitivity and attention to age and developmental milestones of the population(s) served which may include adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Must be able to identify the ability of the age specific population served to follow direction/instructions and give consent to treatment, as well as identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide safe environment and provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served.ESSENTIAL GENERAL JOB DUTIES (Criteria):
Fosters the values and supports the mission of Tower Hematology Oncology Medical Group.
Uses expert hematologic and oncologic knowledge, clinical skills and critical thinking in managing daily delivery of patient care services assuring implementation of the appropriate clinical processes and coordinating/promoting an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care.
Performs assessment and provides chemotherapy education for patients beginning/or changing treatment regimens.
Addresses urgent care matters and sees patients as dictated by need.
Serves as subject matter expert/mentor for triage nursing team.
Rounds on patients during chemotherapy treatment.
Serves as first point of contact during medical emergency codes in treatment area.
Collaborates with infusion nursing team to address issues/concerns during patient treatment.
Performs appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for identification and management of patient diagnosis following established standardized protocols. Appropriately documents procedures and follow-up as necessary.
Assesses quality of patient care delivery and identifies opportunities for changes in practice, rooted in evidence-based standards of care/protocols, which promote positive patient outcomes.
Directs, educates, and mentors staff in the development of sound clinical judgment (synthesis of clinical data and determination of subsequent plan) to promote positive patient outcomes.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, develops service goals and operations/business plans for clinical services specifically, and as a component of the continuum of care within THOMG.
Establishes and maintains patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment, documentation, and billing processes, are completed safely and effectively.
Contributes to the formal and informal evaluations of staff competency, determining staff educational needs, and providing structured assistance in areas needing improvement. Provides staff training, as needed, both informally and in formal in-service presentations.

Important Facts about the role:
This position is 5/8’s position Monday through Friday and has no on-call or weekends coverage.
Office hours: Shift start time is 8am
This role will primarily assist an oncology breast physician as well as working in conjunction with other breast NP’s to help cover patients during the week when other NP’s are on vacation.
You will also be expected to be a part of the survivorship program for the group's Breast Program.
Group is open to considering a new grad if they possess relevant Oncology experience as a Registered Nurse.
QualificationsEducational Requirements:
Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the Board of Registered Nursing.
MSN Degree Required
License/Certification Requirements:
Current unrestricted Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license issued by the State of California.
Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certificate or eligible to obtain.
Furnishing number issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioner
BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience:
Minimum one year Nurse Practitioner experience is preferred.
For Oncology Practices, two (2) years of Nursing experience required, preferred in Oncology inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
Three (3) years’ experience as an Advance Practice Nurse preferred.
Demonstrated positive and motivating interpersonal and communication skills.
