Transports patients by the use of wheelchairs and with stretcher/bed transports, ensuring safe handling of patients to prevent falls.
Transports patients to and from appropriate units or Imaging Modalities within expected time frames, and also ensuring the patient's chart is brought along.
Maintains regular and open communication with Dispatch/Modality/Unit to notify of receipt of task, changes or delays in transport, and completion of tasks. Open communication is important to avoid non-productive time.
Ensure that patient support apparatus such as IV pumps and oxygen tanks are handled safely during transport. Responsible for removing equipment from service that is unsafe or unclean. Responsible for oxygen tank exchange.
Where applicable, obtains supplies from central supply as requested.
Transporter follows established isolation protocol in use of personal protective equipment and hand washing techniques.
Transporter uses two patient identifiers to correctly identify patient.
Proper protocol followed for patient expirations.
Where applicable, transports specimens to the laboratory, and delivers blood and blood products in a timely manner. Proper protocol followed for specimens/blood work. 10. Where applicable, picks up slides for physicians to review from laboratory as requested.
Participates/uses the automated systems in a timely and accurate manner to assist with patient throughput.
Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of length of shift.
Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
Assists with environmental duties in departments or units including pick up and disposal of recycling/trash receptacles; also linen removal from laundry bins to proper disposal area such as chutes for collection as requested. Adhere to cleaning requirements and procedures as assigned

QualificationsEducation, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
Utilizes social skills and communicates appropriately to alleviate fears and/or anxiety of the patient and provide the Best Healthcare Experience.
