SUMMARY

This position is responsible for sandblasting orders per specification and assisting with prepping parts for powder coating. The Sandblasting Technician/Parts Prepper abrades surfaces of metal or non-metal composition objects to remove mil-scale, sand, paint, powder coating, grease, rust, dirt and to impart specified finish using abrasive-blasting equipment and varied media types. This position is also responsible for materials handling and parts prepping duties for powder coating orders as needed. Applicants must be reliable and self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Mask, with tape and other materials, specified areas of objects/items to protect from abrading

2. Ability to pass a respirator fit test

3. Read and review work orders to ensure proper processing steps

4. Inspect parts for damage, correct quantity, and object accuracy prior to abrasive blasting

5. Operate forklift to move equipment and parts throughout yard and shop

6. Maneuver, load, unload orders using a forklift, team lift, or individual lift

7. Turn on valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle

8. Refill pot with media by shoveling media and pouring

9. Examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications and document work order appropriately

10. Prep products for powder coating (wash/pre-treat, masking, sand, hanging/rack, push loaded carts in and out of booths/ovens)

11. Unrack/unhang parts for packaging, package/wrap completed orders

12. Diagnose blasting equipment issues, fix/repair blasting equipment, maintain blasting equipment

3. Ability to handle high pressure hoses up to 90lbs. per square inch and 300 cubic feet per minute

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a shop environment. This role routinely uses abrasive blasting equipment, forklifts, respirators, hood, helmets, required PPE. Exposure to the elements including varied temperatures and humidity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a physical role. This requires regularly lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling, and standing for long periods. Must be able to stand for 8-12 hours a day.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday 6 am - 4:30 pm OR Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Over-time hours and some weekend days as necessary.

TRAVEL

No travel is expected for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Minimum 2 years sandblasting experience

3. 1 year forklift experience

1. 5 years sandblasting experience

3. 2 years forklift experience
