We look forward to meeting you.The RoleThis role promotes Propulsion Plant Planning Yard (PPPY) E70 forward strategy principles in the area of Digital Shipbuilding Integration into Fleet and Public Shipyard support as we serve our role as Planning Yard. It also serves as an advocate for our PPPY designer force at senior staff levels at NNS, NAVSEA, NNSY, PSNS. In this role the chosen candidate will serve as the organizational lead for all PPPY design groups responsible for design deliverables in the areas of iDS, drawings, lifecycle design procedures, material BOMs, and schedule requirements. It will also be responsible for design disclosure coordination amongst all PPPY groups, and will support disclosing product model information to the Ford Class Data Environment and COMET, as well as define future PPPY use cases of these environments . This position will also represent the PPPY for design tool and iDS decisions and will maintain the vision for current and future states format/content of design deliverables.Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.Must HaveDesign Apprentice certification or Associate's degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience;Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience;or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of applicable experience.Nice to HaveThe candidate should be familiar with NAVSEA, NNL, and Shipbuilder stakeholders/customers, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program principles as well as the processes for submittal and approval of PPPY products. Excellent verbal communication and writing skills are preferred. The ideal candidate will possess a detailed knowledge of Reactor and Steam Plant systems with experience in design, construction, and fleet support.
