SummaryJob DescriptionJob Title : Pharmacy Technician (Full Time)This position is located in Lancaster, PASign on bonus - $2,500 - External Candidates only - with 2 year commitment.Full Time , Monday - Friday dayshift schedule, provide leadership in pharmacy department, and procurement and customer service to our physician practices.POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of a registered pharmacist, the pharmacy technician performs various functions associated with the dispensing, charging and delivery of medication to patients, in compliance with department policies and procedures that provide optimal pharmaceutical care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:PHARMACY LEAD TECHNICIAN
Utilizes advanced system reporting techniques to manage inventory and evaluate business trends to assist in achieving established departmental goals.
Responsible for functioning as a leader for fellow technicians in performing daily tasks as well as initiating supplemental duties.
Responsible for determining and implementing technician workflow.
Effectively utilizes resources and responsible for identifying opportunities to improve efficiency in Convenience Pharmacy.
Directs training and continuing growth of Level 1 and 2 Technicians. Assures that fellow technicians and students are properly trained with regard to all pharmacy operations.
Provides leadership for all “Point of Sale” transactions and responsibilities.
In addition to the above primary functions, all Lead technicians must be competent in performing the following primary functions of a Level I and II technicians:PHARMACY TECHNICIAN II
Retrieve and interpret prescriptions; perform pharmaceutical calculations, taking into account patient and drug characteristics; enter prescriptions into the pharmacy information system for pharmacist review.
Creates and updates patient’s health and insurance information in the pharmacy information system.
Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims. Facilitates employee payroll deduction and/or medical billing for payment capture when appropriate.
Utilizes advanced system reporting techniques to manage inventory of automated robotic prescription filling devices. Loads medication in appropriate configuration, location and quantity.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of and compliance with procedures for handling controlled substances and specialty pharmaceuticals.
PHARMACY TECHNICIAN I:
Prepares medications for dispensing under the supervision of the pharmacist, demonstrating accuracy, precision, and consistency relating to selection, packaging, and labeling functions.
Prepares and prepackages bulk medications; compounds oral solutions, under the supervision of the pharmacist.
Assists patients who are dropping off and/or picking up prescription orders. At point of sale, verifies that customer receives the correct prescription(s) and performs transaction as established by pharmacy procedure.
Sorts, credits and re-stocks medications as appropriate when they are not dispensed to patients.
Prepares the pharmacy inventory; completes orders for drugs and supplies from the storeroom and/or distributor, receive drugs and stock shelves and verify all associated paperwork.
Assists in the creation, handling, and maintenance of a variety of pharmacy records, to promote efficient operation of the pharmacy and regulatory compliance.
Answers telephone using appropriate etiquette by the third ring, screens and triages telephone/counter inquiries.
Consistently displays teamwork by actively supporting department changes and willingly and proactively assists co-workers. Assures work for each shift is completed prior to departure.
Maintains dispensing area in a neat, orderly, and clean condition as observed by the pharmacist.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:Other duties as assigned.PHARMACY TECHNICIAN II:
Serve as a training resource for new technicians and assist in evaluating their progress as directed; may assist in preparing work schedules, setting work priorities and making work assignments as directed.
Reviews and transmits wholesaler orders as required. Anticipates requirements, orders appropriate quantities and communicates problems.
Assists with the preventative maintenance of all equipment in assigned area.
Maintains awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields that relate to job responsibilities and integrates them into practice.
Maintains knowledge of loss prevention techniques.
In addition to the above secondary functions, all Level II technicians must be competent in performing the following secondary functions of a Level I technician:PHARMACY TECHNICIAN I:
Assists with the continuous improvement of the new employee training/orientation program.
Assists in maintaining proper inventory and control of drugs and supplies purchased by the Pharmacy.
Demonstrates an understanding and ability to use current equipment including robotics, electronic workflow systems, printers, computers, fax machines, telephones, etc.
JOB REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or successful completion of general educational development (GED) exam required.
Two (2) years of previous Pharmacy Technician experience.
National pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) required within nine (9) months of hire/placement.
A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Completion of ASHP accredited (or comparable) pharmacy technician training program preferred.COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTSAttention/Concentration:The position requires the ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously.
