New Japanese Restaurant Opening (Sushi Cooks Wanted)
A popular Japanese restaurant in East Village of New York City is opening its new concept in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The new restaurant will focus on Kaisen-Don (elevated Japanese rice bowls inspired by edomae chirashi sushi) with a full sushi, sashimi, and appetizer menu. The group is seeking part-time or full-time sushi cooks to join the team.
The ideal team member will work the sushi counter preparing sashimi, nigiri, and maki, ensuring quality and cleanliness. The ideal team member will be friendly and presentable as there will be light customer interactions. Must be able to begin training in early November for opening in mid-November.
Responsibilities:
Maintain daily operations of your assigned station
Assist in daily prep or any other assigned work
Check and complete mise en place and pars and set up station using proper recipes and ingredients
Use standard recipes and plate presentations in order to maintain standards of quality in production and presentation
Be aware of items that are running low and communicate it to the team
Maintain a good working relationship with all back of house, front of house staff, management and guests
Store all items properly at the end of shift, labeling and dating all products
Ensure a clean, neat and organized work area
Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by management
Qualifications:
Practical working experience in a kitchen, preferably in Japanese cuisine
1-2 years of sushi cooking experience highly preferred
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, nights, and holidays
Strong communication skills and team-first attitude
Able to stay organized, manage time wisely and work with little to no direct supervision
Able to handle a multitude of tasks in an intense, fast-paced environment
Able to maintain a clean and professional appearance as per company policies
Able to stand for extended periods of time
Able to carry, push, and pull up to 30 lbs; standing, bending and lifting will be required
Fluency and/or ability to communicate in other languages (Spanish / Japanese) is a plus
Schedule:
Weekday and weekend dinners.
