SUMMARY:

The Advisor II, working under limited guidance, provides comprehensive academic advising services primarily to undeclared students and students in transition at Temple University. Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule, choice of major, number of hours that may be taken, probation, and/or suspension. May provide direction guidance and project supervision to less experienced staff. The focus is on academic advising and curriculum planning with students in an individual or group setting. This involves the development, coordination and implementation of educational counseling services geared to achieving, maintaining, or improving student success and retention. Provides secondary academic advising and operational support for Continuing Studies and Global Programs students. This position is also responsible for enrollment management activities including facilitation of open house events, information fairs, prospective student visits, social media marketing, and other activities. Teaches a one-credit university seminar course for first-year students exploring majors at Temple.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

Works with faculty, staff and students to disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other related issues as they arise

Meets regularly with assigned students to discuss academic and professional goals

Prepares and presents student orientation sessions, assists with course selections and registration activities.

Provides access to information and resources for the achievement of academic, career and personal goals.

Acts as an advocate and referral source and provides consistent outreach and follow up services.

Periodically participates in cross functional student service initiatives.

Represents College at various related internal and external meetings and events and helps to position Temple and advising as highly respected and proactive.

Helps to facilitate communication of the vision, mission, policies and procedures and academic goals of the College and Temple University while assisting with their development and implementation.

May provide direction guidance and project supervision to less experienced staff.

Coordinates advising with career planning.

Provides advising support for Continuing Studies and Global Programs as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years' experience in an academic setting in higher education. Experience working with student information systems.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Demonstrated ability to communicate with students from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds, who are pursuing a wide range of academic goals, and are considering a wide range of academic programs leading to careers in a variety of fields.

Demonstrated computer software experience to include: Word, PowerPoint, Access or similar database.

Demonstrated ability to present in both small and large group settings.

Experience with a Student Information Systems.

Demonstrated ability to communicate with undergraduate students at different levels who are considering a wide range of academic programs leading to careers in a variety of fields.

Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as necessary.
